Is a totem nessisary for keeping track of reailty like in inception?

I don't think it would, maybe for a super master expert lucid dreamer. You would have to have the object with you in the dream [practically every dream] which is very unlikely, and if so, it would work the same way as dream signs and RCing....this is just my opinion plus, not everything in inception works the way it does in reality hahahaha

the reason a totem is a bad idea is that there's no guarantee a totem won't work like in real life while you're in a dream (after all, unless you know you're dreaming it's what you'd expect). Just stick with standard reality checks.

Lol the purpose of the totem was to make sure if they weren't in another person's dream, bc when they were in another person's dream, the dream-making person wouldn't know how much the chesspiece weighed or that the top would spin forever. There's no purpose to a totem, in the way that Inception used in, for dreams at the moment.

Ok first of all, don't take everything in inception seriously. It's a movie, hollywood always makes stuff different. You don't really need a dream totem. In fact it could actually be a burden because you have to keep track of it, which could be inconvenient. Like insideout said, reality checks are fine. They have been proven and work great. So its not necessary and IMO reality checks are a better idea. Hope this will help!
