The amount of time between things you could be told/taught/shown, and then the time to understand that.

      If that makes sense.

At first I flew and fought, and... when I became old enough to appreciate such things, I fucked.
After that I became much more interested in studying the nature of dreams. I explored. I opened doors. I opened drawers... just to see what I would find.

It suddenly occurred to me, during some random LD and I stated that I would like to speak with my subconscious. It manifested itself as a man with a suit and tie, and a smurf-like hat, smoking a twister. I began asking him questions, and I have been doing that ever since. I have learned a lot about myself this way. Sometimes he appears in different outfits. Sometimes he takes on different personas, or takes the form of another person. Sometimes that person informs me that they are a particular part of me; my sense of humor, my evil side, my sadness. Sometimes I ask to speak to those parts of myself, and ask questions to those individuals.

It's not an exact science. Sometimes they say things that don't make sense. My most difficult obstacle is keeping my own CONSCIOUS thoughts out of the DC's mouth. I have to ask a question with absolutely no expectation as to what the answer will be. Otherwise I just get my own thoughts bounced back at me.

Working out problems actually CAN work. I once had a hardware problem at work that I could not figure out. I knew I needed sleep, but the problem was bugging me. So, I went lucid. In my dream I was sitting next to the computer. I had been ruling out possibilities as to what was causing a blue screen all day. I was able to continue through the night, based upon what I knew. I sat and tried different things for about an hour or so, dream time. Each time I tried something, it wouldn't work, and each time I would know why it didn't work. Finally, in the dream, I removed the hard drive, and it worked. In my mind I knew WHY this worked, though I don't remember now.
When I got to work the next morning, I removed the hard drive, and I was right. The hard drive was bad, or incompatible. I don't remember now. I am still amazed that I have this ability, should I ever need to work out a problem that would otherwise keep me up at night.
This sounds great, I'll have to try it as soon I can become lucid.
