      Make yourself smarter?

Sorry if this is in the wrong section!

      I saw this
Serious ideas...get more out of your dreaming.
Can't post the link, so you may want to search.

at first it is nice to explore your fantasies. Fly, kill, fuck and what not but after a while you may realize that you can get much more out of your dreams...

I saw this posted already but ask your dreamscape/subconscious to show you something important to you. You may be very surprised.

During my last lucid dream i sat in a room and asked every part of me to come walk through the door. There were at least two dozen variations of myself that came walking through the door. One was a geeky, another athletic, and so on. I saw one with a cigarette in his hand and I kindly asked him to kill himself. I wanted to let go of that part of me. Since, I have not had an urge to smoke.

During another recent dream, as i became lucid i noticed a DC in a shadow. I could see their outline but not make out what he/she looked like. I asked the DC to show himself and an upset child walked out from the shadow. I asked what he represented and after a little convincing, he said that he was a repressed memory from my childhood. I had a long conversation convincing him that what happened is long gone and that me as a whole wanted to move on and forget about it. Before walking away from the child he became very happy and started playing with some other DC children that had suddenly arrived.

One last one... I had a terribly difficult engineering problem to work through recently and did not make too much headway in a few days of focusing on it. The next time I became lucid I summoned a group of the greatest minds in history, headed by einstein himself. Together we collaborated and worked though the problem out on a chalkboard. I studied the board and forced myself to wake up. I thankfully remembered the steps to the problem upon waking and quickly jotted them down.

I strongly encourage everyone to talk to their DC's. Some are very robotic only capable of simple conversation and ideas. However others seem more intelligent than my conscious self.

I often tell DC's that they aren't real and that they are only a figment of my imagination. Some DC's tell me that they are quite real and others say that they aren't sure that I am real. This has got me thinking recently... Are some DC's part of a collective consciousness? Do me and other lucid dreamers share DC's? Are archetypes real?

Push yourself.... go deeper and post thoughts and ideas!

And I began to wonder, would it be possible to make yourself smarter? Anyone have any comments?

It would be impossible to learn new facts as such. For example, it is unlikely you would be able to learn new things in areas such as maths and science as that would require being psychic. The exception to this would be figuring the things out by yourself but you aren't going to learn things like the height of a mountain or the distance to somewhere. However, I suppose it is totally possible to become 'smarter' at more creative/emotional things such as writing and performing. As described above, I've also seen a lot of threads about people learning things about themselves. I suppose it depends really on your definition of smarter.

As Plex said, it'd be impossible to learn new things. However, it'd be more than possible to improve in a certain skill/aspect of your life - for example, if you're currently practicing a piece of piano music, you could most likely practice it in a dream to speed things up a little.

Nothing is impossible in dreams, or at least that's what I say. I do think that if I were to summon a scientist in my dreams and ask him/her about, say, quantum physics (something I know nothing about) that I would be able to learn something about physics.

Though I think many people would agree that if you practice something (say, math) while in a dream, then you would get better at it, as if you did it while you were awake. While in dreams, your body does not physically respond, but your nerves still send the signals, so if you practice the piano while in a dream, learning the piano in waking life would be much easier.

...if you know nothing about them before hand. You could, however, revise the subject.

Would it be possible to increase comprehension/and or processing speed?

It WOULD be possible to study one's self, and this is what I have been doing for the last one-third of my life since I started lucid dreaming.
At first I flew and fought, and... when I became old enough to appreciate such things, I fucked.
After that I became much more interested in studying the nature of dreams. I explored. I opened doors. I opened drawers... just to see what I would find.

It suddenly occurred to me, during some random LD and I stated that I would like to speak with my subconscious. It manifested itself as a man with a suit and tie, and a smurf-like hat, smoking a twister. I began asking him questions, and I have been doing that ever since. I have learned a lot about myself this way. Sometimes he appears in different outfits. Sometimes he takes on different personas, or takes the form of another person. Sometimes that person informs me that they are a particular part of me; my sense of humor, my evil side, my sadness. Sometimes I ask to speak to those parts of myself, and ask questions to those individuals.

It's not an exact science. Sometimes they say things that don't make sense. My most difficult obstacle is keeping my own CONSCIOUS thoughts out of the DC's mouth. I have to ask a question with absolutely no expectation as to what the answer will be. Otherwise I just get my own thoughts bounced back at me.

Working out problems actually CAN work. I once had a hardware problem at work that I could not figure out. I knew I needed sleep, but the problem was bugging me. So, I went lucid. In my dream I was sitting next to the computer. I had been ruling out possibilities as to what was causing a blue screen all day. I was able to continue through the night, based upon what I knew. I sat and tried different things for about an hour or so, dream time. Each time I tried something, it wouldn't work, and each time I would know why it didn't work. Finally, in the dream, I removed the hard drive, and it worked. In my mind I knew WHY this worked, though I don't remember now.
When I got to work the next morning, I removed the hard drive, and I was right. The hard drive was bad, or incompatible. I don't remember now. I am still amazed that I have this ability, should I ever need to work out a problem that would otherwise keep me up at night.

The amount of time between things you could be told/taught/shown, and then the time to understand that.

      If that makes sense.

This sounds great, I'll have to try it as soon I can become lucid.

If you mean becoming better at learning then yes, theoretically that would be perfectly possible. Learning is all about focusing, dedication, practicing etc. All of these skills could be practiced in a Lucid Dream. I'm not sure how much of an advantage there would be of doing it in a dream though over doing it in real life. There probably is one though.

This is good. I'm happy about this, I'll have to try this as well.

      It's impossible.

You see/read trivial facts every day of your life that you just don't pay any attention to. You have also been tought math/science etc. that you didn't understand at the time, or may never have understood. But that doesn't mean the information/instructions aren't still in your head.

And since LD is all in your head anyway, seems the most likely place you would re learn something you already knew, ya know?
