Involvement of outside noises in dreams.

Obviously when asleep you can still hear noise and this can be incorporated into your dreams, but I was just wondering how much of an impact it actually has on peoples dreams. For instance, I had a dream a few days ago where my alarm woke me up in a dream yet not in reality. Well, it wasn't so much a wake up, more that it just went off and I became aware of the dream (Not lucid, just aware of the experience) and then I went on to continue the dream, but it only started when the alarm went off. Now, my alarm isn't exactly the best, but I found it quite odd that in my dream it went off (At the same time as I set it to in real life, although PM instead of AM for some reason) and I was aware that I had set it and was aware when it went off, yet it never woke me up. What experience have other people had?

I've laid in bed after waking up and started to fall asleep again, and the shapes of objects in my room would start to merge into dream objects. Sounds will also sometimes make their way in - this is especially noticeable when other people are up and about the house during daytime naps and such.

The speaker option in the rem dreamer helps to induce LD by playing a pre-recorded message such as "you are dreaming" As it detects rem in the user, so you are right, the external noises can influence both awareness and content of dreams, I can't wait to try that out. I am looking to buy a rem dreamer mask and speaker used if possible.

twice, my phone alarm (which vibrates) went off in the middle of the night. Both times, I became frustrated and annoyed in my dream because my phone would appear and start vibrating, and i couldnt make it stop.

Once i remember hearing my door knocking towards the end of my dream. After the door knocked three times i suddenly woke up. It was my dad knocking on my bedroom door in order to wake me up for school before he went to work. It sounded quite eerie when i was in the dream though.

I've had a lot of experiences with external noises in my dreams. Whenever I'm asleep during a thunderstorm, something will explode in my dream and it sounds just like thunder. If music is playing while I'm dreaming, sometimes I will dream of an altered version of the song. Sometimes I can also here my family talking while I'm sleeping and the conversation is altered in my dream. "The chicken ate my doughnut!"

A funny thing happened to me when I left the TV on and fell asleep. I was watching this show called Home Improvment, and while I was sleeping, my whole dream revolved entirely around the show. It was as though I were one of the characters. I'm not sure if this had to do with the sound, or the fact that I watched it right before bed, but I thought it might be relevant.

I've had a similar, and kind of funny, experience with an alarm clock. In my dream, I was sneaking into someone's room to use their cellphone for a second (while they were sleeping) when it's alarm went off right as I got close to it. It was my own alarm that was going off that went off in my dream, but eventually slipped back into a waking state after it rang a few more seconds. I thought it was pretty good timing...

It was as though I were one of the characters. I'm not sure if this had to do with the sound, or the fact that I watched it right before bed, but I thought it might be relevant. Unless it was playing as you were in/near REM, I think it was just your mind remembering something you did right before bed. New dreamscaping idea that works similar to MILD anyone? This thread is also starting to remind me of the time I went lucid because I thought my alarm was going off. I was never knew I was dreaming until the alarm went off. "Oh crap! I overslept! Wake up damn it!" Then I woke up 2 hours before my alarm does go off...

This actually happened to me today expect a little differently. So i was dreaming and i was in a field and slowly but surely i heard a fimiliar voice and it just kept saying my name. In the dream i looked up at the sky and i saw a giant hand coming towards me but before it got me a felt a warmth on my left arm and once the giant hand got me i woke up. My sister had been trying to wake me up because i dog ran away (but we found him later on) and i had to help find him. With her hand one my left arm! But this has also happened to me except its my mom and when i hear her voice in a dream the dream like shuts off it looks like its being sucked away by a wormhole or something and once its all gone i wake up.

Haha I know the feeling. I just remembered another reeaaaalllyyy weird thing that happened to me a while ago. I was having this dream where I was sitting in a room while two men were talking to each other about things that seemed weird to them. Suddenly one guy says "You know what else is weird?" then turns to me and looks me dead in the eye and says "THIS!". At the exact same moment that he says that, my phone starts ringing and it wakes me up. It scared me half to death, it seemed like my dream almost knew my phone was going to start ringing, because it seriously did not start until he said that...

Out of all honesty if iwas to see that DC ever again in a dream i'd probably passout in the dream lmfao cuz that sounded really creepy the way im thinking of it

No lol the hand wasnt creepy to me but the guy you were talking about thats said "you know whats weird THIS!"

Oh hahaha, But it's really weird, because I literally never have nightmares, so whenever something creepy happens, its not really scary in my dream, just weird. I'm sure in anyone else's dream though, it wouldve been nightmare worthy haha.
