I constantly find myself facing tough opponents, even while lucid. I wonder sometimes if it's because I've never really seen an appeal in being completely all-powerful, all the time. The more vivid/intense my dreams are, the more powerful my DC enemies tend to become, and I tend to enjoy it more. When I'm in the mood for some sport - even though I try to remain aware that I'm dreaming - I try not to focus too much of my attention on the DCs just being DCs. I just think of them more as characters. I focus more on how I'm forming my attacks than I do on what affect it will actually have on my opponent. I try to leave all of that up to chance (aka; my subconscious).
Start trying to incubate more intimidating opponents, while you're awake. Focus on how devastating some of their attacks could be. At the same time, try to forget that you could easily blink them away or ignore them out of existence. Think of yourself as powerful, but not all-powerful, and put some more thought into how strong and skilled you want your opponents to be. Make them more real. The more weight you give them, in your mind, the more difficult they should be to defeat.
