I must be the worst lucid dreamer ever...

The other day, I had a dream that I was lucid dreaming. I just dreamed that I was lucid. I even dreamed that I had multiple false awakenings.

      I never became lucid.

Then, last night, I had a dream that my cat died. But, in the dream, I thought "Wait, that's an odd way for a cat to die. Ah, this must be a dream. So when I wake up it will all be okay." I believed myself.

      I. NEVER. BECAME. LUCID.

Why is my subconscious so stupid? D: I do reality checks daily, so I don't get this.

Aw man, tough breaks!! That stuff does happen a lot though. I had a bunch of dreams about lucidity just before I started actually getting real lucids, so you might be on the verge of a breakthrough. Have you had any lucids yet? And are you keeping a DJ? That's an important element.

      Keep trying... you're getting close!!

Sorry, that's just pretty funny. Keep trying, you'll do it eventually.

All i would could suggest is to make sure you are really doing your reality cheack, i mean REALLY doing them
I had the same issue as you at first till i read a post on here where they told me i could have been doing the RCs wrong by doing them mindlessly and not really questioning my reality
It seems in your dream you thought it was a dream but you did not really question reality enough.

When you do RCs while awake, take a second to look around, ask "am i dreaming or awake" and see if anything is weird, then follow it by a RC(i do hand through the palm) and try to imagine the RC working. Only after it fail should you determine your not dreaming

In a dream when you question your reality you will look around and see some weird things...that will put your on the edge of become lucid becasue you will see some really weird things(this will also work on your ada and help with the details of your dreams), followed by a RC and there ya go.
you could be dreaming right now....

Just keep up with the reality checks! You will get there! Bossalinni gave some good tips that you should follow. I also wanted to add that when you are in a normal dream the logic part of your brain is turned off. So don't feel stupid! When you become lucid, the logic part turns on again.

No you're not the worst lucid dreamer, I actually had a dream in which I did something (duplicate my bycicle) and then explained to dream character that I did it, but that it could only be done in dreams.

I think it just depends on how 'awake' you really are in the dream, and as everybody here tells you this is a sign that you are very close

Mancon pretty much covered it, just keep up with the RC's and acknowledge that it doesn't matter what you do in your dreams, you aren't an idiot.

In fact even after waking up it can take several minutes before you are thinking clearly again. Some people (including myself) can wake up and be panicked with a random dream thought, believing it even as we are awake. I once woke up, had horrible anxiety about how I "needed to get the big red lego brick" and started running around the house looking for it. After 4 minutes later, I managed to regain my logic.

Not sure what that phenomenon is called but it exists. So don't feel bad about things like dreaming about lucidity, actually thats a good thing; it tells us you are thinking about it a lot, you'll actually probably be quite a successful lucid dreamer in that case.

The closest I've had to a lucid dream so far was when me and a friend of mine were on this island, and it was filled with cannibals. I "knew" I was dreaming, but it never occurred to me to try to become lucid.

People here would tell you that was a lucid dream, since lucid dreaming literally just means knowing you are asleep, it doesn't necessarily mean you act on it. Although I think I know what you mean, sometimes I know I'm dreaming but I sort of just have a hunch so I do stupid shit, rather than get my logic, consciousness, and control in order. Its like I'm humoring the dream.

I've also had a dream that was kind of the same. I dreamed that I was climbing a HUGE building. When I got on the top, the whole building started swaying from side to side, and I fell of (I am afraid of heights, so I dream stuff like that a lot) When I landed, I ran to my family and told them about it. They said that it was good that I was okay, and then my mom said "But, it is kind of weird that you managed to fall from a so high building without any injuries" I was like yeah, that's weird, and my whole family went quiet, like I was supposed to understand something. I didn't get it, so I just continued to talk after a few moments of silence -.-

stuff like this happens to me all the time. talking about lucid dreaming, dreaming about lucid dreaming, telling others in the dream about how earlier it was a lucid dream, but i often miss the critical step of putting it all together.

it just means you are close, keep on trying!
