      LDing and age.

My mother said when she was younger she had lucid dreams but she said "as I got older and the more memories I had the harder it was to recall them".

Anyone know the age range when lucid dreams can occur the most if you practice it.
Is there a certain age when it almost becomes impossible to lucid dream?

Hah, yeah, when your dead. As long as you can sleep, you can dream. As long as you can dream, you can lucid dream.

It's generally a lot more common in children and young teenagers.

That just proves a lot of people stopped caring about dreams as they got older, or had less time to bother.

Dreaming is what our brain does. Getting old won't change that.

The older you get the less time your REM periods are, which can affect it with age, but it doesn't mean you can't or won't lucid dream

... Have you tried it yet?

The question was about lucid dreaming, not just dreaming in general. A lot of people report that the reason they started having lucid dreams is because as children they had a lot of nightmares and this sparked lucidity. Nightmares are a lot more common in childhood than in adults. Also youth is characterized by an "I can do anything" mentality that fades in adulthood, and I believe this mentality is important in lucid dreaming. It would certainly help to explain the ratio of teenagers to adults on this website.

A lot of people go through a period in youth when they have a lot of sleep walking and sleep talking issues and also lucidity. This usually doesn't persist long and is much less prevalent in adults.

Lucid dreaming is just dreaming, but you know you're doing it (as we all know, I don't need to tell you that ). Unless you become one of those old people that isn't even aware of things while they are awake, I doubt there will be a problem.

Those people do it by accident then. They "grow out" of nightmares and forget about lucid dreaming because it was never an interest of theirs in the first place.

Well, that's what I was talking about, is random lucidity. I was going off what the OP said about the mother, who (I assume) wasn't practicing techniques to achieve lucidity. Personally I had a few random LDs when I was a kid, and none (randomly) since then. Certainly if you know how and practice to achieve them you can do it till you're old and grey!

Oh ok, just checked back to the OP -

      "
Anyone know the age range when lucid dreams can occur the most if you practice it."

      .. My bad!

Yeah my mother had them randomly, she did not practice.

Mainly im just curious about if something happens to our bodies biologically as we get older that makes it more difficult for us to have lucid dreams.

Right now im 22 so im not very worried about it, I should probably just go with it, im sure as we get older and have more responsibilities it may be more difficult, but I think we can fit atleast thinking about dreams within any schedule as long as we don't lose track of your real life.

I'm in my 50s. For me it was different, I don't really remember lucid dreaming when I was younger. I do remember more nightmares, sleep walking and more intense dreams.
For some reason, in my early 40's I started having lucid dreams without trying. Didn't ever know what they were until I did some research and found websites like this one.
Looking back over the last 10 years, I will say that there was a peak in LD activity that coincided with a peak in my interest in the phenomenon.
I still have them occasionally, so don't worry, if the interest is there they will probably continue to happen. Some of them suck, but every now and then there's a real gem!

My first lucid dream was a 58 when I discovered this blog. No 61 I have and average of 5 or 6 a month. I wake up a 5 o clock in the morning (40 miles to the hospital I work) so i do not have much time for trying.
