Thread: What is a good book on Lucid Dreaming?

i recommend Robert Waggoner's "Lucid dreaming: gateway to the inner self." It gave me lots of ideas about the scope and use of LDing that I had not thought of previously.

You might try The Lucid Dreamer, by Malcolm Godwin. It's a good summary of the whole subject, and has some interesting insights/tips.

i got this book to, it awsume you should get it, it open my mind i got the stephan laberge one to but lucid dreaming gate way to the inner self is my favorite

i also liked this book. but i thought it was a little spiritual, long and drawn out, just my opinion though. I've also read "the art lucid dreaming" by rebecca turner and peter casale and "the ultimate lucid dreaming manual: from basics to beyond" by marc vandrkeer. Both of which are phenominal books. they really go in depth and explain how to do a lot of techniques. both books really inspired me to get into lucid dreaming. highly recomended.

I agree, this book is good. I have both of Stephen LaBerge's books and Robert Waggoner's book. Gateway to the Inner Self is a little more beyond dreaming, though.

i agree it was a little "spiritual and drawn out" but i had never thought about asking dream characters what they represented before or addressing the dream directly. while it does have some tips and techniques in it, its not primarily about that.

Skarr, what are you specifically looking for in these lucid dreaming books? western techniques? eastern ideals? going beyond dreaming? cool dream reports? that would probably help us to point you in the right direction.

the marc vanderkeer is a great practical book and it can be downloaded for free if you google it.

Just looking for a good book that will get me up in the right area, more understandable more techniques, etc.

Definitely start with Exploring the World of Lucid Dreams. It's the best by a long shot. At least for a "how to" and detailed explanation of why it works etc.

I've also read Waggoner's Gateway... It is a good book, but as well as beig pretty much about the more spiritual aspects, t kind of put me off LDing for a long time because he says there are essentially "dream police" inside your head that start showing up and trying to shut you down when you've been LDing for a while. I don't think a beginner needs that kind of scare... it's hard enough without ideas like that rattling around inside your head!!

Definitely a good one.

EWOLD by LaBerge is great too, you can skip a lot of the personal accounts and go right to the instructions on LDing in that one, but it has a lot of great material.

i just finished re-reading it last week and didnt get this from it at all. he does say that sometimes DCs will tell you that you aren't ready for certain explorations, but i dont recall anything like "dream police."

i was poking around on google and found this large list:
Lucid Dreaming, Out of Body Experiences, and other Dream Related Books

(to me, anything on OBE's or AP are essentially identical to lucid dreaming. the techniques, the descriptions, the ideas are pretty much indistinguishable.)

LaBerge's ETWOLD is a classic and should definitely be required reading for every LDer out there!
