My First Attempt - Wig out

Hey I'm new to this forum, this is my first post :3

Anyways, two nights ago I attempted my first intentional Lucid Dream.
What I did was when I was lying in bed on my back I had my hand and forearm pointing upwards to the ceiling, perpendicular to my upper arm. (90 degrees angle)

Also when I took a breath in I counted to 1, then when i breathed out I said "I am Dreaming" (in my mind) and continued doing this 2, 3, 4 etc..

After about 20 seconds of doing this it felt like a surge of energy hit my body and knocked me unconscious. Now this was my first attempt so I regained consciousness straight after this had happened, because I was like "woah that was trippy, it actually works".

After this I kept trying the same method but I couldn't relax or concentrate properly because I was so excited and a bit scared. However I felt as thought I almost got into the dream state as It felt my mind was tunneling to another dimension. But I couldn't get there so I just went to sleep normally.

I have some questions hopefully someone can answer

      1. Is it normal to lose consciousness after about 20 seconds?
      2. Could this have turned into a WILD if I had kept concentrating?
      3. Was I close to having a Lucid Dream?

      thanks in advance <3

Why does everybody always start out trying to WILD??!!

What was the purpose of having your arm pointing up toward the ceiling? I don't see how you could get to sleep like that, and if you came close your arm would fall and wake you up.

How long does it usually take you to fall asleep? Some people do it very quickly (the dirty bastards)!! and some take a long time. I usually lay there like a dumbass for at least a good hour.

Now this surge of energy is interesting. Does it happen frequently or at all regularly? It might have been exploding head syndrome. I get it every night as far as I can tell, just before I fall asleep.

Anyway, just keep at it. Read a lot of tutorials and try out some different techniques, choose one and get consistent with it.

1: That's a bit fast, you must have been very tired or managed to relax yourself instantly. Not normal really.

2: Well, you would have ended up in SP and probably seen alot of HI. When you try to WILD when you're about to go to sleep, two things will happen. You will either fall asleep because you're too tired. Or you'll end up in a crappy dream as your body isn't going into REM sleep. That dream will end quickly. Doing WILD's during naps or WBTB's is what I recommend you to do.

3: It sounds to me like you might have an easy time with WILD actually, I suggest you try it out for a few weeks during WBTB's and naps. Even people who are great at it now might not have succeed at first. It takes time to master. So give it time and alot of tries

You have to put the excitement and fear aside. Thinking about something else or visualizing might help you with that, but that also comes in time. As most people know, you get very excited in the begnining when you start LD'ing and you wake up. That will pass though.

      1. I suspect because your arm was up, you felt numbness rather than SP.
      2. Possiblely
      3. No

Keep trying, and read some more guides!

Good questions. Where did you read to put your arm like that and what's the point? Very strange.

If you WILD at the right point in your sleep cycle...like after a few hours of sleep and you are very tired, then you may fall right back asleep quickly or WILD quickly. But if you were trying this from a state of being completely awake, then no, you aren't going to enter sleep paralysis or get close to dreaming in 20 seconds, unless you're narcoleptic.
