Why do so many people not even know LD exists?

I think a lot of people never really have the opportunity to learn about its existence. I mean, most people don't think about their dreams at all. And it's not like you're seeing billboards or commercials for lucid dreaming everywhere. So how are they supposed to know? I think it's good that we're telling people, it's the easiest way to get the word out. But I'm sure you've all discovered how frustrating it is to excitedly tell someone about lucid dreaming only to get a half hearted "oh, okay then." So instead of telling people with talk I've decided to tell them through written words. Yep, I've decided to put my degree to good use (Neuroscience major, journalism minor) and write a book. It won't be just about lucid dreams, it's going to be focused around sleep with lots of chapters branching out to things like dream theories and different states of consciousness. Hopefully I'd be able to get it into the science section of some big bookstores (more likely ebook store - sigh) and spread the word that way.. That is, if I can get it published in the first place

It is hard to adequately explain what it really is like, I think. They hear the word 'dream' and assume it is similar to normal dreaming. Maybe if it was called 'Inception' or 'Wizards sleep' or something cool like that it would sell better. But personally I dont mind it being just us enlightened few. Also, for me at least this is darn hard to master. I achieve it once a week and dont know why those days I reach LD and other days not.

There are ways to find out about it without people introducing it or the internet. I swear in just my casual reading I have come across about 10 different books that alluded to lucid dreaming for only a small paragraph. At first I was like, if I never did that internet search I wouldn't have found out about this, it changed my life. Then I was like "oh cool I would have found out anyway", then "no matter what I chose to do I would have found out about it", and finally I didn't know how more people didn't know about it, and that maybe people today just don't read much.
