      DreamQ is ripoff (proof)

I was curious about the dreamQ when I first heard about it, but as with most things I do a lot of research. After all of the searching on the net I have done I have found that the creator of the DreamQ is trying to make people spend way too much for the product which in fact isn't even their product.

I started my search at the DreamQ website and found that there were no money-back guarantees, no creditcard uses, or no testimonys. That seemed a bit odd. I then checked all of the pictures used on the DreamQ's website, they all were in .jpg format except for one. That one was the picture of the monitor you wear on your wrist and it was a .gif.

So I started searching on the internet for Heart rate monitors and I came across the same exact monitor used with the DreamQ (here). The pictures weren't only the same fornat, (gif) but the same size, (197x300) and the same picture enirely. The only difference between the pics is the DreamQ has the Oregon Scientific logo taken off. (if you look closely it looks photoshoped)

      Oregon's monitor:

      DreamQ's monitor:

Now if the monitors are one in the same why does DreamQ's cost twice as much? Is the heart rate of a person durring REM sleep worth that much money? (DreamQ: $280.00 to $300.00 as compared to $89.95)Now for all I know this idea still might work but if your going to try it, don't spend your money on the DreamQ. There is a cheaper way. All I can say is DreamQ's developers have a lot of explaining to do.

(I have asked Seeker if I could post Oregon Scientific's Website and he said it was ok)

I just got to quote from LaBerge's book (I hope he won't kill me):

page 23, Why dreams seem real: Mind/brain/body relationships during dreaming
"[snip] Contrary to expectation, heart rate increased only slightly. Since then, we have carried out similar experiments with two male lucid dreamers. In both cases, respiration showed striking increase in rate. Again, there were no significant elevations of the heart rate. [snip]"

What they were measuring was physiological reactions during LD orgasms.

Maybe another reason to be sceptical?

I would try to take it one step further and find a way to make them accountable. There are a lot of people gettin gintersting LDing these days and this is not the first product or company I have seen trying to gauge the public or making ridiculous claims. So far this site seems to be rare in that there is no gimmick. All the others I have seen are either spirituality centered or promotional.

I find a lot of their stuff to be a little off. What I find odd though, is when I did a search for dreamq, a topic from this forum came up before their website. Which basicly means more people read that topic in the 3 days it was up, than has gone to their site.

They do have a phone number on their site. If you really want to know, you could call them and ask about that stuff.

No it means Dreamviews has more relevance/pagerank.

So, okay, we've proved the pretty obvious already....enough about the DQ thingy already.

Thanks for that snippet mtfuji - I'm in the slow process of making a device that may have been based on heart rate (we still needed to determine if it would work)
The research I did in fact pointed at heart rate being possibly usable as a measurement

Thank goodness our plan A was to use electrodermal response. That should hopefully work out better

Look closely at DreamQ's monitor. That pic doesn't look photoshopped, I could do that kind of job in MSpaint.

Anyways, good find. It'll hopefully save some people on this forum's 300 dollars.

You could always give it a try. If it works it would be great. :-)

Hey, here is my cheaper method!

This is an experiment I'm about to try. Cellphone Induced Lucid Dreaming. I set my cell to vibrate every hour. When that hour comes and it vibrates, I perform a reality check. After a few days of this I'm conditioned to do a RC every time it vibrates. So now... I fall asleep and set it to vibrate like 4-6 hours into my sleep cycle (thats when we Dream the deepest right??). I'll tape it to my arm or something. So I'm in my dream sleeping. It goes off. It reminds me to do a reality check right there in my dream. And BAM!! MY FIRST LUCID DREAM!! So do you guys think this will work. See any flaws? Help me out!

I used to be a Marathoner and so I am familiar with heart rate monitors. Many companies offer them. Go shopping on the Athletic Websites. Look for a heart monitor that can be set to beep on High and Low thresholds. Nothing will cost you anything close to $300.

The added bonus is that you can take up running.

      Placebo,

The concept is still valid! We just need a cheaper way to do it. I still think we can bring it in for about $30 USD

Yep, I still intend going ahead with it... once my house is built, my old house is sold, my flu and fever goes away and my company's huge project if finally finished (it's way over deadline)

Not to mention that I'm pretty stretched with the number of hobbies I have:
Lucid Dreaming, TK, Machine learning, Game development, Lock picking. And then some 'normal' enjoyment like playing MK Deception

ie. I'm still game. I just need to get my life sorted out first

I'm also very interested in these things. I guess you have been discussing it here. Any suggestions where to start reading?

Uh, any book on how sleep works, and google
      And electronics

I've already started making a device, and me and Meus have 2 half finished prototypes lying around. Unfortunately I suck at electronics, so I'm struggling, and lately I haven't got the time.
