Definitely helps to do WBTB later in the night, 6 even 7 hours after falling asleep can work pretty well. don't worry that you might not have enough time to become lucid, if you do become lucid, it will happen pretty soon after your first dream begins. Plus when you do wake up, you will have the memory fresh in your head, as opposed to if you had to fall asleep again.

Also learn how to get to sleep really fast, usually what I do is focus on my feet passively and without too much force. This will result in, every time your mind reverts to higher order thinking it will remember this anchor and instead of waking up fully, it will focus on that simple task. It is sort of how WILD works, but focusing on your feet is a very repetitive stimuli, which will begin to fade as your body relaxes, and when that happens you'll fall asleep with it. I've used this to get to sleep at night with great results. If you think you wouldn't mind turning it into a WILD though, focus on your breathing, because it involves a little more stimuli, even though you might take a little longer to fall asleep, you'll fall asleep more aware of what is happening.
