      Drunken Dreaming?

So, last night I had my first ever lucid dream. While I did not anything I wanted to do (not for lack of trying) it was still a pretty trippy experience.

What I'm not sure of though, is that before I went to bed I had gotten drunk (buzzed, not smashed, but still drunk), and I'm not sure if that actually helped my lucidity, or if it hindered gaining control, or maybe a little of both.
Yesterday was my last day as a sophomore in college, and today was my first day of summer vacation. So, I went to a party last night. I turned 21 five months ago, although including last night I've only been drunk three times in my life.

I also had a job interview at 1 this afternoon. Well, in my dream I "woke up" to discover I had overslept - it was 2 in the afternoon. I start stressing, wondering how I slept through the multiple alarms I had set, which should have had me out of bed no later than 10. I then glance at my clock again, and it's 10:15. Using this to clue me in to the fact I was dreaming, I gain lucidity and attempt to exert some control (and, I'd be a liar if my first attempt at control wasn't to wish a hot celebrity into my bed.. heh). Instead though, everything started spinning and blurring and falling apart, at which point I wake up.

So yeah, thoughts? Any of you have experiences with alcohol induced lucid dreams?

It's my experience that alcohol never helps with lucidity.

I agree with Liquidaque. I don’t think that alcohol helps you in your lucid dream.

I can confirm this. And have been thinking about adding Johnnie Walker to the substances category of my database?

I tested it again last night. While I did not become, I did notice again my dreams were definitely still more vivid. It makes me want to continue trying it that way, but the last couple nights probably involved my entire years allowance of alcohol, lol. Plus, I'd rather learn to ld without it rather than becoming dependent on something like that for the experience.

No, alcohol is never good for dreaming. Alcohol inhibits deep sleep.

That's probably for the best. I don't think anyone should (even if it would increase lucid dreams) drink alcohol to induce them. o_O

alcohol promotes sleep during the first half of your sleep cycles, and detracts from it during the second half. check your sources people.

secondly, i have had several lucid dreams after a night of drinking, and i mean being fairly drunk.. but not totally trashed.

i doubt that alcohol will consistently help you have lucid dreams, but i am thinking that perhaps it worked as a "kickstart" to get your awareness up because you are not used to the effects it has on your personal body chemistry.

in any event, congrats on your first lucid! (yay!!) i hope you have many more to come, and after the first.. that awareness of the fact you are asleep becomes easier and easier.

I almost never have a memorable dream when I fall asleep after drinking alcohol.
