Holding your breath in a dream to wake up?

Hey, this might be in the wrong section but was wondering if anyone else ever holds their breath to wake up from a dream?

I seem to do it quite often now, it will only ever be when I'm having sleep paralysis, in which case il be struggling to breathe anyway as i can never breathe well through my nose, il just hold my breathe for.. quite a while and il eventually wake up. googled this but can't see anyone else that ever does this so yeah.

I doubt it is, but is this similar to apnea? probably not. Also could this be bad for my health?

Any posts will be appreciated thankyou. x

To wake up from a dream I usually focus on my real body and try to move it around. I focus on breaking myself out of sleep paralysis and moving my real body around while I'm in the dream. This disrupts the dream and I wake up. I've never tried holding my breath in dreams for the purposes of waking up. I also don't feel any closer to waking up when I do hold my breath in dreams.

I think this would only be bad for your health if your brain stopped receiving oxygen. I highly doubt you would be holding your breath long enough for that to happen though.

One might think that holding your "dream body's breath" may be detrimental to an individual's health. If this waking technique is concerning you, I would partake in other dream-exit options. Opening my eyes really wide in my dream tends to wake me up, and it is a passive and safe way to exit REM. Happy dreaming

I've heard about people holding their breath to escape SP and have done it myself, but not from a dream. To wake up from dreams I usually only have to blink several times and try to open my body's actual eyes. This often leads to a false awakening which is obviously still a dream, so I repeat this until I succeed.
