Yeah, don't be. Dreams are always from your own mind. This might not be what you want to hear, but if you're absolutely afraid of having bad dreams, you probably will have a few. Always think of the positive when it comes to your own mind. Ignore the "Don't get your hopes up" rule of real life, this is all in your mind so it's all to some extent under your control.
As for if they did happen, nightmares are nearly always based off of a fear you have. If you are lucky enough to have a lucid dream, and a monster or person does start scaring you, ask them what they want. Being afraid is pointless, and running away/waking up is temporary. Ask why they're trying to scare/etc. you.
My best advice is, think happy thoughts. Watch something funny, listen to upbeat music, DO read stories of awesome/happy lucid dreams, and STOP reading bad ones. XD
