Very interesting....
I would have to say that there is no normal way to have a DILD, which it sounds like you had. The very reason a DILD usually works is because something out of the ordinary happens that causes you to question reality when you notice it. The chair thing is familiar, I used to have Dreams where I'm trying to run from something or to something, but I go nowhere.
Flying is going to be difficult for beginning Lucid Dreamers because you have to build up your focus and confidence. I've had Lucid Dreams intentionally about a dozen times now and I still haven't been able to fly on my own. I can however do other things that lead me to believe my strengths lie elsewhere. I can summon anyone I wish, whether it be out of thin air or using an existing Dream Character. I can make things dissappear, I can control elements like water , fire etc. I can make my entire Dream scene change to whatever I wish simply by thinking about it. I can teleport, and use telekinesis which is among my favorites.
The more you attempt to Lucid Dream, the more Lucid Dreams you will have. The more Lucids you have, the better your Dream skill will become. Start with visual changes like a scene, or make something move with your mind. Then you can advance to things where you must anticipate what they will feel like, after you build your confidence. Confidence is huge.
Sorry if I seemed like I was showing off there, I just wanted to show you some of the things you may want to try to boost your skill.
