      Question A couple questions concerning lucid dreaming

      Hello.

      Well, obviously I'm new on the forums and mainly made this account only to ask this question, but this forum definitely seems like a good source of information regarding this, so I guess I could spend more time around here. We'll see.

      Anyways, to the point;

      I'm not so worried about the method, although I have to be honest that I have no idea how to lucid dream at will. In fact, the last time I had a lucid dream was years ago. Yeah, many, many years ago. It was just me going around in my apartment and trying to put on the lights and wake up my parents, but nothing happened. Obviously, since I wasn't in a physical form.

      So, here's the deal. As far as I've understood, lucid dreaming (which is also often called out of body experience) is basically when your spirit/soul/something detaches from your body, and you're able to float around and such. But what else can you do? This is what this thread is about-- here are my questions;

      1) I'm not sure if many can relate to this, and I'm sure a lot of you will consider me a bit of a creep for this, but I was wondering if it'd be possible to go see a (living) person when lucid dreaming. Even if the said person is, in this case, 3,071 km (aka 1908 miles) away. The reason I'm saying this, is because there's someone who I'd really love to see, but I can't afford to travel physically, using money. And the said person is nearly impossible to contact directly, and I doubt that she'd come to Finland.

      2) Still relating to the first question, kind of. I read somewhere once that you'll be able to speak with your subconsciousness while lucid dreaming. Like, you'll be able to learn more about yourself and whatnot. Would it be possible to ask for the subconsciousness to travel you to some place, if you said like, "can you show me this person" and maybe said his or her name, while picturing it in your head?

      ..These are my questions for now, eh. I would be happy to get an answer. And if it is possible, then I shall look into the methods of lucid dreaming and how to get it done at will.

      Thanks in advance.

      Well first of all I'm no expert on out of body experiences but I'm certain that they're not the same thing as lucid dreaming. It's not really clear from a scientific point of view what an out of body experience even is, but on the other hand there are some hypothesis about the neurobiological basis for lucid dreaming.

      That aside, lucid dreaming is basically exploring the inside of your own mind, and yes, you can go anywhere, but it doesn't involve actually moving of course...it's limited only by your imagination and ability to control what goes on during your dreams. Control comes about through awareness of the dreamlike nature of the environment but focus on the dream as one's current "reality" so to speak.

      I'm not sure if that answers your question, but I hope it helps.

      I do hear more an more often people calling lucid dreams as OBEs, just because you are out of body in both instances. But I don't like it, and here is why:

      I subscribe to classic classification of OBE and AP - out of body experience and astral projection - when your subtle body leaves your flesh and blood body and goes to astral planes, either during near death experience or astral projection, or projection to near physical.

      Lucid dream - when you realize you are dreaming while dreaming. (It's possible, that one of your subtle bodies leaves during a dream, but I would not call that OBE.)

      In lucid dream - you can summon any character you like (dead or still alive), or visit a friend or a place, but most likely you will interact only with a character, that plays a role of the person you summoned based on your memories.

      In AP - you may visit astral planes and get in touch with your loved ones that had crossed over, or if you project to planes that are near physical world or rarely into physical world, you theoreticaly can visit real existing places and people in real time - what you see at that moment, that's how it is.

      If you would like to learn how to lucid dream at will - here is a Beginners guide. Lot more tutorials in DV Wiki and also great classes in DV Academy.

      Please do ask any question you may have. happy dreams
