      The Power of Lucid Dreaming

I am struggling to attain lucidity, main reason being that I don't try too hard. Regardless, I have been lucid quite a few times. Most recently last night, where in my dream I was trapped in some sort of building from a locked gate and when I realised that I was dreaming I willed myself to 'magically' unlock it and run away, but failed and lost lucidity.

Through trying to attain lucidity, I have reasoned that by doing so it is also a way to train the mind of control and discipline. But not just in dreaming but also in our waking life. I am unable to prove or disprove this theory as, stated before, I am struggling to attain lucidity. So, I want to ask my fellow more experienced oneironauts, has the ability to lucid dream trained your mind, and if you have felt any effects it has caused? Such as your outlook on life or more control over real life situations or any other things?

i think one thing that i've read people see as a benefit is heightened awareness due to doing reality checks and whatnot

It's an attention span thing. Also multitasking.
Figuring out that you are dreaming is only the first step in a true lucid dream. Staying aware is the tricky part.
Despite the decade (give or take) of experience I have with LDs I haven't made much headway into actually staying lucid by any artificial method. It just happened (or didn't happen) on its own.

It's all about control. I find that getting to the point where I realize that I'm dreaming can be easy compared to maintaining lucid. It can be really tricky.

So you're saying that through training to become lucid, it broadens you're attention span? Any examples?

Heightened awareness sure would be a great attribute to have. But wouldn't the awareness only be for dreaming? Seeing that you've only been training to become lucid. Are there any examples that people have experience heightened awareness for other situations/things other than just knowing whether you're dreaming or not?

If you're looking for things to tell you if you're dreaming, you're going to be more aware of everything from exactly what your house looks like to how much different dreams feel from waking life.

Ahh, so you become more aware of your surroundings (in real life and dreaming), and not just for dreaming.
