Would they cancel each other out?

Once again I seem to have fallen straight into a dry spell. I get about two weeks of constant lucidity and then about three to four weeks of nothing. I'm gonna assume this is down to stress and when I get stressed my motivation to become lucid and to do reality checks during the day dwindles and I end up not doing as much as I should towards getting lucid.

ADA is something I try a lot of and I feel this has definitely helped with my ability to DILD. However recently I have been trying to visualize or daydream lucid scenarios and I was wondering if the two methods cancel each other out. If ADA is based on focusing on the here and now and visualization focuses on blocking out the here and now would this not be effective in becoming lucid?

I tend to set aside maybe 10-30 minutes to listen to binaural beats and visualize what I want to do in a lucid dream that night, how I become lucid, how I stabilize, what everything looks, sounds, smells, tastes, feels like and so on. Then I will try and spend the rest of the day doing ADA.
So I was wondering if by doing this I was essentially cancelling out the effects of both techniques.

      Thanks.

I don't think they cancel each other out. Tibetan Buddhists who are masters at lucid dreaming recommend increasing awareness in waking life as well as a lot of visualization exercises. As long as you are not trying to do both at once, the two do not cancel eachother out.

Thanks. I didn't think so but I'm just trying hard to figure out what it is that causes me to have so many frequent dry spells.

One is developing an habit. The other is building expectations and daily residue. No, they don't cancel each other

In fact, a study in 2012 regarding lucid dreaming techniques indicated that one of the best ways to raise it might be by using several techniques at same time. That's why "Tholey's method" technique scored so high.
