Dream Incubation, wow it actually works!

Wow, I tried a method of controlling what you dream of before you go to sleep called, Dream incubation, and it actually worked! I don't know if it helps with lucid dreaming, but if anyone wants to know how to do it or whatever, let me know. Basically you control what you dream of before sleeping, it's cool.

Dream incubation is used in the VILD technique, so yes dream incubating is proven to work, but hey, just help out everyone who might not know what it is and post it.

Yah, Dream Incubation is certainly effective, going what other members say. Never really tried it myself though, but I'm gonna.

It WOULD be helpful, however, if you would post your incubation techniques here. That would certainly be helpful. Thanks!

      Dream Incubation

As asked for by some people, today I'm going to post my method of dream incubation. First off, you want to think of a question or some sort of creative need that's been bothering you, Example: Should I drop a math next year?
Example: How can I make more rock and roll songs?
Once you have chosen a question or topic that you find important to yourself, try to think about it during the day, let the thoughts run freely through your mind. (NOTE: Don't pick something potentially life changing, like: Should I get married?)
Now, before you go to sleep, write your topic/question down in your dream journal and remind yourself that you intend to have a dream relevant to your topic/question and that you will remember it upon awakening. Now, the intense part. As soon as you close your eyes, focus on nothing else but your topic/question, let any other thoughts just float out of your mind. You may, think of possible solutions to your topic/question during your hypnagogic state, but nothing else should be focused on except your topic/question, and things to do with your topic/question. Also, you should put a few items around your bed, or in your bed that remind you of your topic/question. So as you drift off focus your thoughts purely on the items you've placed around you and your topic/question. Any questions, or feedback, lemme know.

You described it perfectly. I lack the patience to think about anything for more than 5 minutes though so the Visually Incubated Lucid Dream method is not for me.

Interesting. Your method of dream incubation seems fixed on getting a dream providing insight into some question, or problem, etc. For more recreational uses of dream incubation? Hrrm... Like I said, I don't have much experience with dream incubation, but it seems to me that the same basic principles should apply:

      1) Pick a topic you want to have your dream about
      2) Think about that topic throughout the day, let it run through your mind, occupy a decent portion of your thoughts.
      3) During the day, if at all possible, try to focus your senses on that particular topic... for instance, if you want a dream about egypt, look at pictures of egypt, or if you want a dream about university, try to pay attention at university to the various sights and sounds, etc, of university.
      4) Before you go to bed, re-inforce the presence of that topic in your mind, by writing it down in your DJ or somewhere, or placing objects about that topic around your bed or your bedroom, or by doing something else... basically, any activity that involves an "expression" of your thoughts on that topic...
      5) As you drift off to sleep, let your thoughts dwell on that particular topic, and your idea to have a dream about that particular topic.

That seems to be the basic gist of everything I've read about dream incubation, at least...

      OpheliaBlue and gab like this.

Maybe it's a dream and if I scream, it will burst at the seams.
