Is there a formula for REM cycles?

I'm awaiting delivery of a 99 minute electronic timer and I really want to nail down my REM cycle.

Because we're all different ("I'm not!" Sorry...a bit of Life of Brian crept in there just then) there may be no easy answer to this, but is there a general formula for calculating REM cycles? I appreciate that REM cycles become longer and closer together as the night progresses.

What I'm hoping to do is firmly pin down the REM start times using a regular SST of 12.00 midnight to whatever...So, assuming there was exactly 90 mins before the 1st cycle started at 1.30 what's the +- on the first cycle length being aprox 10 minutes.. and what's a good estimate of the lengths of the remaining REM cycles and the gaps between them...or is everything just too variable?

I think my early REM cycle's in the 70's so I could calculate my times if there was a reasonable template

PS I've found this thread The Dream Schedule: Help needed! So unless anyone's got anything to add that might do it.

      regards

A member of this forum created this tool that can track your sleep stages/cyles during the night. Try to give it a go There's also alternatives like sleep cycle (another app). It's almost impossible to calculate it without any device
