      dream guides?

So i heared there are these things called dream guides.
I am not exactly sure of what they are but i thought i read something about them being the only DC's that don't "reset" every dream.
Can someone give me more information about them and tell me how to find them.(can i make like a gps tracker and set it to dream guides? )

You can use any tool you want do whatever in a dream, it is your mind, you are the boss in there, I'll just say that expectation and intent play the key role. Now... if you'll actually find a dream guide by the definition, one who will give you guidance and/or insight into your dreams and (possibly) waking life I do not know.
Like you said they are usually recurring dc's and there's a lot of different theories to their nature. Some believe they are a caring portion of your subconscious, others say they're entities (from elsewhere), others might think they're a "manifestation of the collective unconscious". You decide.
There's also many "standard" techniques for reaching them for example: intent meditation, asking a question before bed and for the answer to be in your dreams, simply calling them out while lucid, asking about them to a random DC and so on.
I've pursued dream guides for a long while with utter failure, I think it's reasonable to consider that if they are to be what you expect them to be they won't interact with you just by virtue of some technique you know? I think it's something that happens on another level. Now if you want to "play" dream guide that's a different story. I hope I'm not sounding salty, just trying to precisely make my point. Others will certainly give you better input. Good luck with that!

Dream guides and things like them are subject to much controversy among the dreaming community.
One theory argues that Dream Guides do exist and that they exist semi-independently from the dreamer that created. They usually claim that the Dream Guides are there to teach the dreamer more about the dream world, themselves, and their subconscious. Another theory argue that Dream Guides do not exist in any independent form and are merely recurring dream characters that some people misidentify as being unique. This isn't to say Dream Guides do not exist, only that it is actually the dreamer that gives them their power and unique personalities by assuming that they are unique, intelligent, and powerful in the first place.

Which theory you adhere to really depends on your outlook on life, spirituality, and the experiences you've had with these so-called "Dream Guides". I personally hold more to the second theory that states that Dream Guides are just normal dream characters that we inadvertently give power to. This is likely because I am a natural skeptic however. I still find Dream Guides fascinating though and plan on discovering my "dream guide" and asking it questions. I just don't think the dream guide itself is special unless I let it be special and I plan to do so.

No one really knows what the right answer is, so no one really judges other people's opinion on the matter on this forum. At least not from what I have seen. So don't be afraid to hold to whichever theory you find most suitable, if you decide to hold to one at all.

My Lucid Dreaming Motto - "I have walked upon the the surface of a burning star. Observed events so infinitesimal and instantaneous that they can barely be described as having occurred at all. You... you're just a dream character. And this world's most powerful dream character poses no more threat to me than it's smartest cupcake." - Dr. Manhattan (kinda)

In a spiritual sense a Dream Guide would probably be the higher self. To understand what the higher self is you need to go deeper within spiritual belief.

However I suggest that you don't fully believe in this unless you experience it yourself. Only personal experience can make you know.

I haven't had experiences of this yet, so don't think of me as a pot head.

To understand the concept you have to think of the physical reality as a virtual reality. Imagine a 13 year old guy starts to play world of warcraft and then he is so addicted to that virtual world so he (almost) forgets about his real human life. Let's say that this could continue for ever and and he then are as so addicted and have so many different characters so one day he just forgets everything and now is totally in one character and starts to develop and ego and he totally forgets about his human self. He forgets the other charcters memories and experiences. But now the World of Warcraft community decides that it have gone too far so they choose to show this Wow character that there is a life outside of the game. So one day this character suddenly have an experience and get interested in human world. He starts to meditate and get more spiritual, all people in his WoW virtual reality thinks that he is a crazy spiritual new age dork but then this character manage to communicate with his higher self, which in reality is himself but his human form.

This is the higher self, the consciousness that is experiencing the virtual reality. And well right now we might just be a consciousness addicted to the human experience. Atleast this is what the Monroe institute is talking about.

More on this can be found here: Wednesday with Bob Monroe 1 - YouTube

And well the less spiritual version is that our Dream Guide is just a representation of our subconscious mind.

There's many definitions for a dream guide.

The most simple one is: a dream character with an apparent higher sense of "self" and aware that you are dreaming and he/she is a part of yourself. They tend to be more intelligent, and they can offer loads of insight, but they are not necessarily open for questions. I've seen reports of many dream guides that acted really mysteriously.

Personally, I believe they are just projections of a high expectation to find an intelligent/interesting/mysterious dream character, meaning that any dream character is your dream guide, each aspect of your dream is the ultimate projection of your unconscious (and I don't even agree with this definition of unconscious as some sort of second entity, but oh well). The best way to figure out what a dream guide is for you, is to try to find one yourself!
