What is considered a lucid dream?

Here are the scenarios that I don't know if i'm lucid or not:

      1. In my dream, I was explaining and showing to my friend what is a lucid dream. As we were walking around, I was showing him that I can alter the surroundings which I can, and there was this inverted buildings scene from the movie "Inception" which I showed him and others I can't remember now.

      2. Dreams that has a story in it, not sure if i'm lucid but can do anything thought of, and still follow that plot in your dream.. kinda complicated

      3. A dream about lucid dreaming?? Like i dreamt something about lucid dreaming but i'm not sure if I myself am aware that I'm lucid dreaming lol.. Like in my first example

I think I have some dreams like that so I can't really be sure

Most people experience some kind of a happy, exciting realization. Like "wow, I'm dreaming".

All the scenarios you are describing are very common. Especially, when someone just started looking into lucid dreaming and he is thinking about it a lot. Even if you have control in a dream, but you don't realize while in the dream that you are dreaming, then it's a regular dream.

You may have better awareness and control and those could be signs of you thinking about lucid dreaming. Or even signs of your practice paying off, if you are practicing. If you not practicing induction techniques, feel free to check out our Induction Methods and Techniques Happy dreams

      i see, thanks
I've been researching about lucid dream for quite a while now and the cause must be that. One of my friends got interested in how I got lucid dreams since he didn't experience that, in fact, he can't remember any of his dreams and that's how I started telling him what I know about it and after that, I dreamt about the 1st scene that I've posted. I wonder why some people don't remember their dreams like my friend.

Unfortunatelly it's common not to remember our dreams. But this can be fixed simply by thinking about it more often. Writing whatever we remember in a dream journal. Even if all there is are a few words.

You can talk to your friend about dreams and I bet he will start remembering them. What also helps is to stay in bed for a few minutes after waking up. Stay in same position and try to think back and remember a dream. Don't start thinking about your day right away. Good luck and happy dreams to both of you
