The dream journal is my most important tool, and although it is easy to forget dreams seconds after awakening, it really helps to practice not moving when you wake up. As soon as you wake up, keep your eyes closed and don't move, then relax and you will remember your dream. At first it may only be a flash, but that will bring the rest of the dream back.
It also helps to keep a note book next to your bed, so when you wake up in the middle of night, too tired to write in your journal, you can jot down a few key words. This really helps me, and I always remember the rest of the details after doing this.
My other favourite tool is a few times a day, I stop, and instead of doing a RC, I imagine that I am in a dream. I think to myself (like playing 'make-believe- as a kid) "Wow, those walls look so real," and I touch them "they feel so real. My brain is awesome at creating things that are so lifelike" etc. This works really well for me.
Good luck!
