      The moment I become lucid...

      I wake up. This has happened the last few times I've tried to become lucid. Each time it feels like the dream is "shallow" around right after I fall asleep or right before I would usually wake up. I'm not excited, so it's not the problem. My brain just decides to do it's own thing. I'm usually so annoyed that I forget to RC.
      Advice for the novice?

      It should get better.

      But your suspicion could be right. It's so much easier to become lucid, when our sleep is light, or when we are already waking up. Since that's when our mind is becoming aware as well. This happens to me a lot. I get lucid WILDing, before I have a chance to fall asleep deeper. Just keep practicing, you are doing good. Happy dreams
