      Dream recall

I've had similar problems to you dreamguy, and limited success with LDs, but my dream recall is quite good, although it wasn't when I started. When you first wake up, try not to open your eyes. Another tip that helps this is to make sure your room is dark in the morning with blackout blinds. That way when you do first open your eyes you don't get blasted with light which it's said makes recall more difficult. I find that if I lie still immediately after waking and keep my eyes closed, in a dark room, it helps with recall. The other thing is I sort of let my mind go blank and not try too hard to remember, but be prepared to wait a while. It's amazing how many times I have woken with no recall, or only little snippets, to find that after waiting a few moments, maybe a minute or so, a long dream can come flooding back. Usually it's just one particular aspect of the dream that pops onto my head, and then I can work forward and backward filling in the rest. It took time for that to come though. At first it was just bits and pieces. It is important not to try too hard, but just let it come.
I do now generally manage to remember one or more dreams a night, so keep your spirits up! You can do it too!
One additional tip, try eye mask and ear plugs, which help to block out distractions when you wake.
