      Writers: Lucid Dreams as Inspiration?

      Calling all writers:

I dabbled in lucid dreaming three years ago and now I'm back. I'm between jobs and have a lot of time on my hands so I figured I might as well. One of my passions is writing. If I could identify myself in a genre it would be magical realism. I love interlacing the surreal and the bizarre with the mundane.

I'd love to hear techniques of siphoning inspiration for your writing from lucid dreams. Right now I'm picturing an Inception-esque "opening a safe in the wall and finding the blueprints for your next short story." But then again, all writing is illegible in dreams, so never mind.

How have you as a writer benefited from being aware of your dreams? Any cool success stories?

I was thinking about this as well. But it gives a lot of inspiration to your writing. Depending on what type of person you are and what type of dreams you have. Say you like guns and you dream about being in an army and killing bad guys. Writing a book like Tom Clancy would would be a great fit, but trying to write a book like The Phantom Toolboth would not be good for that type of person. Basically I'm saying it is a good inspiration as long as you understand your interest correctly. (Which I doubt anyone doesn't know). The guy who made Alice and Wonderland got his idea from a lucid dream.

I'd say dream journaling alone would be beneficial to a writer. Because dreams sometimes seem so random they can give you insights and new ways to look at things. Not to mention dreams being a great source of inspiration.

As to lucid dreaming. Well one of my goals is to walk around in the world I've created in one of my stories. Surely some new perspectives will come out of it, maybe some interaction with characters will help me with the development of those characters.
