Question A small question from a newbie...

(First off, I'm new so if there is an obvious answer to my question, I honestly wasn't aware of it.)

My question is, when you talk in a lucid dream, are you actually talking out loud (in bed or wherever) or is it just your subconscious voice? I know in normal dreams you can be perfectly quiet but if you're actually conscious does that make a difference?

Sorry if it sounds stupid, but I really don't know.

      Hi,

During our dreams we are unable to act out in reality because we are protected by mechanism called Rem Atonia
Rem Atonia prevents us from moving with real body while we move with dream one
Same goes for speaking and other similiar stuff.

Once ago in lucid dream i attempted to summon Dream Character and i was yelling out her name which didn't work (She didn't show up.)
I stopped doing it after some time because a thought in my head appeared ~Wait, I hope i'm not screaming in my bed~.
And i freaked out about this possiblity and then decided to be silent
But in fact my body was all the time peacefully sleeping

If your worried about talking in reality during lucid dreaming you might consider enabling voice recorder when your sleeping and reviewing tapes later.
I'm quite certain that talking with real body won't happen unless you have some disorder that causes 'Rem Atonia' mechanism to show up at all
But in that case you would be able to move your whole body probably during the sleep
So if you'd jump in dream your real body would do same.

But worry not, it's a rare behaviour which you would have noticed in the past if you had it

Interesting, thank you for the answer.

I feared that if I was doing something fun in an LD (flying, chase, sex, etc.) then I would get questioned the next morning for continuously talking in my sleep
