      The Void Between Dreams

I have read about people who can stay conscious even after their lucid dream has ended. They say they basically are in a dark void (non dreaming sleep I suppose) but are still conscious and they wait for a new dream to form.

      1. Have you done this? If so please reply and share your experience!
      2. How can this be done?
      3. How long does the void last before a new dream forms?

      All replies are appreciated!

If you change the dream setting, then it can easily happen that you wind up in a grey fog. I suppose this is, what many term "the void".

I can get there simply by issuing a command (to the dream - not the dream characters) to take me into another place (I dish out orders to my dreamscape often). A statement like "Take me to your leader!" or something similar should easily do it for me. Maybe it will for you also.

This typically lasts a few (long) seconds before a new dream setting is created, and the probability of waking up during this phase is high.
So ... is this the real universe, or is it just a preliminary study?

You could be talking about NREM, or delta sleep, Erkums, or the period of sleep when dreaming does not typically occur. And yes, it is very possible to remain lucid as you slip from a REM period (when dreaming does typically occur) into NREM, and find everything quite black or (often in my case) misty gray. It's also possible to lucidly do things during this period. As a matter of fact, I offered a thread on the subject a while back, called Exploring Delta Sleep; you might want to check it out.

      1. Yes. But I would no describe it a void of darkness... it is hard to explain. It is like nothingness... you are not you, but just a body-less thought... It just feels like a state of super-conscious I would call it. This topic was discussed back in 2010 I believe, someone called it SuperLucid.

      2. Pretty much it has trigged on it's own just anchoring to the dream when you feel you are waking up.

      3. Can't say... in this stage, you have some sort of ego death where perception of time ends. It lasts forever and for a spit second at the same time!

Oh, thank you for that link.

Delta sleep seems very interesting actually.

      Hi,

I used to think that the void was the end of my lucid dream and wake up, but after listening to a dream views podcast about the subject I had a void dream and was able to create a whole new dream scene from the void. From the void what I did was imagine myself touching the warm wet tiles of a shower room, as soon as I made contact with this surface the rest of the scene unfolded, I was now in a shower room and then I imagined I could hear a voice in the next room... It’s amazing how my just knowing this information has turned the void into such a positive and empowering tool in LDing. following this I have had many other LDs utilizing the void, rubbing your hands together is also a good way to keep yourself in your dream body while in the void as sometimes it can last a while. Overall it’s a great way to start again with a blank canvas in your LD as you are not already somewhere trying to get to somewhere else distracted by the dream scene you are in. It gives you a moment to think where you want to be and all you have to do is imagine that place. I will also point out that I am kinesthetic person (my primary sense is touch) so for me the logical thing is to feel an object into existence, I would make sense to me that people who are auditory or visually lead would use sound or vision to create a new dream scene from the void?
