How does your dream end?

My lucid dreams have ended in different ways, but the most common is the world around me falling apart. Here is an example. I was at my beach house with a bunch of dream characters, and I knew that the dream was going to end soon. I went outside and looked into the distance, and actually saw the world collapsing, getting closer. I said goodbye to the dream characters (as I always do ) and watched it get closer. As it got closer I decided to try and stabilize the dream to keep it going longer, so I spun around a couple of times and then looked up again. Although the scene didn't change, the collapsing stopped and the landscape was as if it had never started. I asked the dream characters if they knew how much time I had left, hoping to get a response from my subconscious. I wanted to make sure I didn't start any long process with limited time left. After about a minute or so the world started to collapse again, and as it got to me I woke up. How do your lucid dreams end? All responses are appreciated!

If youre standing around the dream world expecting it to collapse then the chances are it will. Even if youre not wanting it to happen its still in the back of your mind that it could. Similar to a nightmare when youre being chased, chances are the bad guy will keep finding you when you try and hide, because being a creation of your imagination, he will always know where you are.

I think he means what happens in your lucids as the dream ends. For me, it's sometimes a feeling for a few seconds. I'll suddenly feel my body in my bed, and the dream world around me will fade. Then I wake up. However I have trained myself to expect a false awakening at this point, because it could easily be turned into a DEILD. Interesting topic.

For me I tend to go into the void or get the feeling that I will wake soon and I just wake. There has been various times where I suddenly become lucid and then DC's notice and start coming after me. I try run and hide from them but they usually find me and when they do they touch me or something and I wake. There was a time where DC authorities were coming around and going from DC to DC and every time getting closer to me. I knew the moment they got to me I would wake so I talked directly to the awareness behind the dream and a wall opened up that had an endless passage behind it. I managed to go into a new dream scene after that. There was also one time when I was enjoying being lucid, exploring the environment when I overhear a DC saying I was going to have to wake up soon. I tried asking them why, but I was sort of ignored. I at least managed to at least ask them something else I wanted to know before I woke.

Oh sorry i thought it was a 'why does this happen thing.' In mine it tends to go one of two ways - If ive had a really epic lucid dream and ive done something cool in it then ill purposely wake myself up so i can jot down the basics. However often i just fade out and fall asleep into a normal dream again and record them in the morning. Not usually and exciting ending like yours!

However I have trained myself to expect a false awakening at this point, because it could easily be turned into a DEILD. What she said. My LD's tend to end only in unavoidable wakefulness, which I know is coming by the sound of my distant breath or the intruding hum of my white noise machine... and yes, when I hear that, my DEILD is already in the works... Sometimes, though, they end when the imagery or dream story is just so excellent that I allow myself to forget about being lucid, and just enjoy the dream.

Ill start to lose control of my eyelids, theyll start closing and its hard to keep them open, which is when i wake up

I always get this weird feeling in my lower left area of my stomach, kinda right above the thigh... Maybe 5-6 inches? Feels like someone is tickling me very aggressively. Then, I continue to feel this while watching everything around me break into shards, like glass shattering. Pretty cool, imo, other than the whole weird feeling.

Usually i can tell that my lucid dreams will end because they would simply start to fade into nothingness, then i would wake up. The instant transition between dreaming and awake almost startles me however it does fascinate me.

My lucid dreams start to fade into black around me but it takes awhile for it to finally consume me.

Some of these are really awesome! Perhaps I just haven't had enough LD's yet to really get a feel of what that's like, but it's more likely for me to be woken up suddenly, and if I don't have an abrupt awakening then it usually just fades into a non-lucid.

One of two things happens when my lucid dreams are going to end soon. The most common one is that I get this warm, energetic feeling in my chest and I can start to feel my body sleeping in bed and hear the sound of myself breathing. The other one is that the dream will start to get really dark and all color will wash out of the dream so things will begin to look black and white and grainy. That one reminds me of how I feel when I'm about to pass out actually.

My awakenings sound similar to what Ophelia and Sageous have said. I'll gradually start to feel my waking body and hear my breath, and the dream imagery will fade over the next few seconds. If it's daylight, the warm brightness will build and start to show faintly through my eyelids, and if it's night time, I'll be surrounded by darkness. Cool thread, it's interesting to hear about some different experiences!

My lucid dreams always end by becoming more and more dark and indistinct, and then I feel that I am balancing a very fine line between dreaming and awakening, and if I don't remain super-focused, I will wake up. It's kind of like trying to keep your balance on a very thin platform - you always feel that you have to concentrate to prevent yourself from falling, and if you lose concentration even a little bit then you fall. Another way to put it is that it kind of feels like "falling asleep in the dream", almost as if you were incredibly tired in waking life and could hardly keep your eyes open.
