      How does shared dreaming work?

Have been wondering about this for quite some time now. Always find myself in huge dream landscapes filled with people. I don't think my mind is able to fully reproduce a whole virtual environment every time I fall asleep though, so I always wake up confused. Just last night I found myself in a school setting with around 100 different people, or DC's. It was a very multi layered dream. This was followed by saving a huge group of airline passengers by shifting my body weight to prevent an airplane from falling from the sky, followed by busting through this gas station with 3 guys I've never seen before, only to find myself in this random bar like setting afterwards. So how does it all work? It can't be as simple as it seems, like oh there's so and so again busting through walls and what not. Also I often have dreams involving family members or close friends of mine from my old school, yet when confronted with the situation in waking life they always deny any involvement. Now I doubt I'm powerful enough or even wise enough for that matter to be enjoying life with a duplicate set of people that look and act the same way as they do that they are completely unaware of. The whole thing just seems really implausible, and thinking about it gives me a headache, I feel like I must be missing something really important here.

Why do you find it so implausible that your mind could create those complex scenes ? Don't forget that your mind is creating the perception of a complex scene, so it may not actually be as complex as you think.
One way to think of this is that it is a bit like the way the eyes can only focus on a tiny spot within your total peripheral vision, and yet what you "see", or perceive, is a continuous, complex Scene.
That means your mind is filling in the scene like it does in your dream.
You may perceive a complex scene, but what is a complex scene? In real life you can only concentrate on part of a complex scene, by scanning it with your eyes which only see a small part at a time. So it can be the same in a dream, your mind gives the impression of a complex scene, while only having to detail one part at a time.

Hi, why the title is how shared dreams work. Your talking about normal dreams. These people are just an illusion, all your surrounding is an illusion.
And why you think your brain isn't powerful. He is moving your body all at once without rest all your life. Every cell in your body is connected to your brain and ther is billions of cells. So don't underestimate it ( him ).

Shared dreaming isn't possible in the typical form of "shared," but it might work where both individuals have their brainwaves sent between each other via wires, like a telephone system. something that sends their brainwaves back and forth. Imagine if our brains could be connected to the internet.

Hey Aerotactics, your idea is maybe not as daft as it sounds. We now have coclear implants that allow deaf people to hear, So why not something similar connected to bluetooth to make a radio link between dreamers? A simple system could allow two dreamers to link at a basic level, but in the future who knows what might be possible?

Not to go too far off topic but honestly I think this will be the next big thing for virtual reality once the tech and support has caught up for it, it would be alot better than having wires dangling from your body as you move around (physically).
