      Please HELP!

Sorry for the caps in the title! I just wanted to get your attention. So basically I've been trying WILD and I don't know how to keep myself awake. I tried counting and repeating phrases over and over in my head but I end up falling asleep. I wake up naturally after 5 hours of sleep at 3:00 AM(I go to bed at 10:00). I tried to do WBTB but I heard that you couldn't turn a light on and I'm terrified of the dark! (I know pretty pathetic) Anyway you could help me overcome or try something else to induce a lucid dream without having to get up from my bed?

      So questions:

How do I stay awake during WILD?
Do I have to keep lights off when I get up for WBTB?
Do I have to get up for WBTB?

Thanks for your answer! It means alot!

Hey Rose! I understand everything you are saying. I have pretty much the same sleep schedule and problems. I'm terrified of doing WILD's in the dark as well. to keep the answer short I accidentally did a wild and the experience was amazing. But still I am scared. What I find is when I get up at 3 am I don't get out of bed. Unless I have to pee for the most part I don't move and just go right to doing a wild. It happens a lot faster when u do that rather than getting up and so far I haven't had a scary vision. Granted I only have successfully got that far 3 times and went lucid twice after 2 weeks of doing WILD's. I have the same problem of falling asleep. But what I do is basically make up a story kinda like a dream and go through it in my mind. this basically keeps my mind thinking and making up new things and distracts me from being scared. Hopes this helps and I wish you the best of luck.

      Hey there Rose,

The goal of WBTB is to get yourself into a state where you're awake enough so you won't immediately sink back into deep sleep, but not so awake that you can't get to sleep anymore. How we get to that state is different for everyone, and requires a bit of experimentation and trial and error. Some people only need to stay awake for three minutes, others require half an hour. Some people can stay in bed and not move, others have to get up and do some sort of activity. Some people won't be able to sleep anymore if they turn the lights on. Others have no problem with that.

I would advise you to avoid discomforts. If you feel you need some light, then turn on the light. If you feel you have to go to the toilet, then go to the toilet. You likely won't get to that state if you're not feeling comfortable.

Hope that helps, and good luck!

Thank you so much! This definitely helps me a lot! I think the only problem I have left is falling asleep too quickly. That's my main problem. I always promiseysekf that I will stay concentrated but it never happens! Ahh! Well anyways thanks for your help
