Hello world,

I saw many posts on the forum about binaural beats but they didn't help me
It seems that when we dream we produce theta waves, so according to some people we can have lucid dreams by listening to theta waves
I've heard about isometric beats
What's the difference between normal and isochronic beats?

They're not proved to work and there may be a placebo effect but what do you think about it?
Can they help with meditation?

Isochronics only work if
1:you are as still as possible,
and
2: you are using them in a completely dark room.
Sometimes they come in MP4s that flash black and white in synchronisation with the isochronics, so when this is used in a completely dark room with eyes closed, they can be very effective.

Binaural beats do not explicity carry the low frequency wave; instead it arises as the interference tone between the left and the right channel. In other words, it doesn't work unless you hear both channels at the same time.

Isochronic beats carry the low frequency wave implicitly in each channel; it appears as a kind of "pumping" effect, where the volume increases and decreases with the low frequency. You will still get the effect even if you only listen to one of the two channels.

Yup I just read some stuff about that from the link @Tradl3s shared,
it seems that you don't need earphones to get benefits from the isochronic beats (it's recommended to use them though)

Well, one thing is that they normally sound completely different from each other. Another thing is that the binaural beats have traditionally been given a rather unique explanation, namely that the desired tone (eg. a theta wave) is generated by the mind, rather than being physically present. Personally, being a physicist, I have some misgivings about that theory, because the same tone is actually physically present (as an interference) - albeit possibly rather quietly.

In the isochronic tone the desired frequency is not explicitly present, it only comes about through the repetitive "pumping" effect. It is essentially the same as shamanic drumming.

The main difference is that you need headphones for binaural beats due to scientific reasons, but you can listen to isochronic tones via speaker if you so wish.
