Thumbs up My first lucid? I think so!

Okay so last night, after 2 years of trying, I think I had my first lucid dream.
I woke up at 4:15 as suggested by another user (instead of waking at 2:30) and tried the FILD technique again. I have been trying this for a few months now and it wasn't working, but the waking up later really did the trick. I didn't actually go straight into a lucid however, it happened more like a DILD (did a reality check at my bedroom window and realised I was dreaming). Outside my window was nothing. Literally NOTHING. I was more like "wow this is crazy, I'm in a dream", then more like "calm down, remember if you don't stay calm then you'll wake up". So I calmed myself down a little but the excitement was already too much , and I woke up. I'm not entirely sure if this was lucid, and if it was it'd probably be like a layer 2 lucid dream, but it's HUGE progress and so I woke up very feeling great, even though I have school this morning
I meditated using 'the mindfulness app' yesterday night for 30 minutes, which was the first time in a while.
Thanks for the suggestions guys (they really helped) and here's to many more!

Well lucid dreaming isn't about controlling dreams, it's about recognizing them and familiarising(I don't know if that's a real word) or distinguishing them from reality.
So, CONGRATS. Now you can go to the streets and dancing sayin' WOOHOO JUST HAD A LUCID DREAM!

But, instead of using FILD or DILD, just use WBTB(WILD). You can go to lucidology.com for more info or go to YouTube and search for lucidology 101 6th video (they're a total of 13 I guess). and GOOD LUCK.

Well done Congrats. Now that you know what they feel like they should start piling up.

You now know what they "feel" like so that is huge! Yours sounds like my first one sort of. I was in a room playing with my son and became lucid. Then the room was sort of dark and like you it was Wow, I'm in a dream! My first wasn't much but my next few were awesome. Hope it is the same for you. Suggestion....touch something next time. As you test the other senses it becomes more real. Or focus on the floor...but no more than 2 seconds in my experience. Dreams jump around with short focus on things so I try to mimic that.

It was absolutely lucid; for a dream to be lucid, you simply have to be aware that you are dreaming.
Generally, I find that I never accidentally wake up during lucid dreams, but I do sometimes lose my lucidity and return to a normal dream.
Anyway, congratulations for two years of persistence, I probably would have given up if I'd had to wait that long
