Vague, dream-like imagery

Last night I woke up in the middle of a dream, due to over excitement. I took a quick trip to the bathroom and then went straight back to bed. After relaxing in my bed for a little while, I started seeing some sort of dream, I believe. It was pretty vague and in the borders of my vision, I could still see the back of my eye lids. The dream was not colorful at all, rather black and white, but in front of me, I saw a blackboard and some chalk. I was fully aware while seeing this, so I took a piece of chalk and attempted to draw something, but I don't remember if it worked or not. What exactly would this be categorized as? My first thought was hypnagogic imagery. And also, could this be a potential "gateway" to a lucid dream?

I'd say hypnagogic at first, but the chalkboard part I don't think is that. I would say that it's a gateway. Keep trying that!

I would call it a dreamlet, Hans.

Dreamlets are random moments of dream imagery that occur while, during WILD, you hover on the border between wake and sleep. They're more dreamlike than HI, but still lack the quality and cohesion of actual dreams (mostly because you're not quite asleep yet).

i'm not sure what you mean by "gateway," but dreamlets are certainly a sign that you are well on your way to sleep and your actual dream.
