Question Questions pertaining to dream guides

Greetings, dream enthusiasts. I consider myself somewhat of a veteran when it comes to lucid dreaming, but something I never delved too deeply into (mainly because I had no solid success) is the whole subject of dream guides. There may be other threads around that I'm unaware of, but nevertheless I wish to pose my own questions to those more informed.

Before I start, I wish to express that I'm treating this theoretically, as I'm a bit skeptical towards to whole thing, but then again anything is possible in a dream so why wouldn't it be a thing, right? I've always been envious of those who profess to have a single or multiple dream guides. I don't think I've ever encountered one. I have met DC's who have said yes when asked if they're my guide, but have never surfaced since, nor really been of any benefit to me.

      So, my questions are these:

      1. How does one go about meeting/"contracting" with a dream guide?

      2. Can a dream guide be created? Or a dream character that has been manually created/already in existence become a dream guide if the dreamer wishes it?

      3. Is their appearance consistent? Does consistent appearance require input from the dreamer, either long term or short term?

      4. What can a dream guide do? Can it instill lucidity, for instance?

I've had a goal for a while that entails visiting a place I created in my mind, a long time ago. There's a DC I've also created but never made contact with, who I expect to reside in this place. I'm wondering if I can bestow the title of dream guide upon this character.

Hope you guys can shed some light on my questions.

      Thanks,
      -GravesTC

I'm not sure how to create persistent guides and control what they do, but I think I have an idea of what is possible.

Dream guides, like everything else in our dreams, are based on some combination of our knowledge that is at least subconsciously recalled during the dream.

To meet/contract the dream guide, we get ourselves to know we are meeting/contracting the dream guide. To do this, we learn it and at least subconsciously recall this knowledge during the dream. I'm not sure know how to do this.

Consistent appearance may or may not require input from the dreamer, either short-term or long term. The dream guide's appearance is based on the combination of our recalled knowledge concerning their appearance. This combination of knowledge can change or remain the same.

Dream guides can do anything that we know they can do. This anything we know they can do can be anything we know. Dream guides can help instill lucidity if we know they can and we recall this knowledge during the dream.

Just as any topic in lucid dreaming, even technique, it is vast and sometimes vague. I cannot say what is normal for DG's, as it's been a while since I have regularly participated in this forum, but what I can say, is what I know, personally, about DG's.

My particular DG, and it is indeed my only DG, met me in my very first lucid dream, and made me lucid. In the dream, he was beckoning me to come into a strange building, and the instant I saw him, he made me lucid somehow... it's worth noting that every time I see him, there's a strange sixth sense presence that tells me it's him, and not his appearance, which always changes, outside of he is never white, always male, always has the sixth sense sensation, and his hair is always crazy looking, often Einstein-esk. He has been young, he has been old, but he always follows those guidelines.

Since my first meeting with him, in which he sent me into a strange dream-state that altered my consciousness while awake at first too (long story), he has always showed up to help in some manor/way... either to make me lucid, or to help with, say, a stubborn dream aspect; for example: one time I couldn't fly, he showed up, and made flying possible.

So, 1: I really have no idea about standard protocol for meeting a DG, but I can tell you an idea that may lead to it, however, I suspect you have already tried. In my dreaming, I can talk aloud, to the dream as a whole, and ask for things, almost always with those things happening... if you are like me in this regard, perhaps try, or retry, asking the dream to present you with your DG. I don't really have any other tips outside of this, and perhaps keeping a keen eye for recurring characters.

2: From what I do remember about others comments, you can indeed create a DG, but my efforts in this have lead to nothing but my original DG over thousands of LDs, and many failed attempts to create a DG. I've tried making a DG poof in front of me, and then asking it if it is a DG, often with a yes, sometimes with a no, but like you said, the ones that said yes, were of no help, and didn't recur. I've also tried finding either random DCs, or DCs that seem to know much more/are more lucid, or even find DCs that have actually said they realize they are dreaming, and then tried to make them my DG with instructions to make me lucid and help me when they can, to no avail. If you haven't tried, asking a lucid DC to become your guide is as best a way about it as I can think of.

3: As I stated above, while most peoples DGs appearance stays the same, mine, personally, does not, outside of non-Caucasian male with messy hair.

4: Like I said before, a DG can instill lucidity or help you in your lucid endeavors. If your a spiritual person, which I suspect you are not, there are other spiritual aspects I suspect they can do, but have not confirmed or denied such a thing.

Hope I've helped - best of luck!

Well... first question is: What do you consider to be a dream guide?
Somebody that will simply help you attain/keep lucidity? Or do you think of it like a spiritual guide of some sort?

If you only expect the guide to help you with lucidity, in a way it is no more than simply having a plan before sleeping... you might remember things you want to do by yourself or, if somehow you feel limited, the guide (that you ended up creating) might have an easier time than you doing things.

If it goes to the spiritual side... then I think you can't create it. It all depends on your beliefs and your connection to a possible spiritual guide.

Thank you for the insight, dreamers. This has made everything a bit more clearer to me.

Paulo, I would personally go with the assumption that they're a construct of the subconscious mind.

      1. Just ask in waking, and feel their connection
      2. Yes
      3. Yes, can change, can stay constant
      4. A dream guide can do a lot, including things that are beyond human imagination and limitation

I have a lot..... of guides..... 300+, and those are just the ones in my dreams, so i know a lot about them.
      This is it?

So, assuming they are a construct of your subconscious mind, the first thing you should not do is try to "create them", as that would be a construct of your conscious mind. Try simply asking if your subconscious can present itself to you.
You might as well ask them what they understand about the wake-life world, the dream world and your body. After all, the subconscious is responsible for all the functions on your body that you don't control, so maybe they can also tell you things about your body and health that you are not aware about (and this is also the reason many relate dreams and spirituality with healing... in a way, if you can really contact that part of the subconscious responsible for your immunologic system, you can both understand if there's anything wrong and fix it).

Then it also depends on what you want from the dreams. As some say, dreams are simply your imagination and you can do everything... but that "everything", if too far from reality, don't seem useful to me. Sometimes dreams are good to literally "train" something, the same way car simulators can help people learn how to drive before they actually drive a car for the first time.

Okay, makes sense. I have another question then: is it possible to create a DC with a reasonable amount of intelligence? I could settle with that. The last thing I want is for the DC that will inhabit the area I'm trying to go to (that I mentioned in my initial post) to be mundane and stupid.

As for what I want from dreams, at the end of the day it's knowledge and enlightenment. I want to learn every aspect about the secret world inside of me, in a way that is relatable to a RPG. I will start at the bottom and gradually progress in both wisdom and abilities until I can don myself the grand master of my inner-self and use what I've learned and accomplished to enrich waking reality. I've created a "game" of sorts to help me do just that as I believe it'll be the key for my own personal motivation.
