      Lightbulb New to Lucid Dreaming

Since 5th June 22 I stopped smoking Weed so that I can practice Lucid Dreams.

From 6th June till 13the June I was consuming Alcohol so I did not experience any withdrawal symptoms.

Monday(13th June) night I got broken sleep, I was sleeping for 1-2 hrs and Again I used to get up, But I got 6 dreams and was able to remember and write down my dreams in my Dream Journal.
Tuesday night I had Insomnia so I did not get any sleep.
Wednesday night I got deep sleep, I dreamt about being on a ship but when I got up in the morning I was feeling dizzy and could not remember my dreams.
Thursday night (Yesterday) I got deep sleep, I also had dreams and when I got up today morning I was feeling dizzy and could not remember my dreams..
Here is what I remember of yesterday ,..."A girl asked me for Dice to play, I gave her the dice and wanted to know why she needs 2 dice. I asked her why she needed 2 dice. I looked at the game she was playing. She was playing Ludo and it looked like she needed 2 dice" this is all I remember. But I know I had more dreams but not able to remember any.

Any suggestions on how I should proceed further ??? I am not confident If I will get proper sleep as I have insomnia and also I am not sure if I will be able to remember my dreams.

      Please guide me.

One of the best guides for new practitioners is to read the first 3 chapters of Stephen LaBerge's "Exploring The World Of Lucid Dreaming." He outlines all the things you need to do to build dream recall and then start working on promoting lucidity.

It may take your body a while to detox from the effects of weed and alcohol. Both of those are real dream killers. The key thing is to stick with it and be consistent, and really enjoy it, keep a positive attitude. Think more about an overall "dreaming practice," not just "lucid dreaming." If you value and appreciate all your dreams, and you gradually work in the lucidity-promoting practices, the lucid dreams will come!

I'm sorry - can you clarify? You took an entire bottle of sleeping pills? Or am I understanding this wrong? That does not sound safe, at all.

This adulterated coconut water is something you get while knowing that it is adulterated like this? Is it on purpose or is it just chance and it's not intentional that you're drinking something adulterated? I think it may be the case I am not understanding something, or something is being lost between languages.

Either way, you might consider trying to change your lifestyle, because this sounds like it's a problem that you can possibly make some changes with, for your own benefit. To be clear, I'm not trying to tell you what to do, it's just that to me this also doesn't sound safe for your health.

I see, that is a difficult situation to be in. We obviously can't know your full situation so any advice we give is likely going to be cautious and I wouldn't like to suggest or condone something that may be causing harm, that's all.

For dreaming purposes, you are doing well for sticking with writing your dreams down on your dream journal, this will always help you improve your dream recall in the long term. Even just a little bit of recall at first can go a long way towards improving your ability and confidence in remembering dreams.

Some things to consider. I understand if you need medication to get sleep. However, it won't help with lucid dreaming. It will probably make it harder, but not impossible.

Are there alternatives you can try to reduce the amount of sleeping medication you rely on? I would highly suggest making tea an hour before bedtime, specifically Valerian Root mixed with Chamomile. Or you can try Ashwagandha, too. Valerian + Chamomile is like a relaxation bomb, but not like meds. If anything, it might make your dreams more vivid. I love my tea. My favorite is ashwagandha + chamomile, but the Valerian will seriously give you a relaxation boost and make it easier to sleep.

Some other suggestions. Since you're not on rotational shifts anymore, I would make it a very important habit to go to bed EARLY. Even if you're not sleepy. Even if that means you have to lay in bed and do nothing. You could try audiobooks while you lay there, for some that can be sleep inducing (depending on the book). Double it up and make it an audiobook about lucid dreaming (did I mention, they have Exploring the World of Lucid Dreaming by Stephen Laberge on audiobook now). Eventually your body will get the message and you will shift your schedule earlier and earlier. I can't express enough how going to bed early (like 9:30) makes a huge difference in dream recall ability.

I would also recommend you start thinking creatively and develop a unique relaxation plan that starts a couple hours before you want to go to bed. Pamper yourself; treat yourself like you would a baby. I would include things like hot bath, relaxing tea (not tea with caffeine though), listening to some ambient music or sounds (I love Tibetan Chimes with rain in the background). Get yourself some aromatherapy (lavender, or my favorite, jasmine). Sit outside for a bit while you listen. Fresh air and nature is relaxing. I love my porch. Stretch. Meditate. Go for a run or other workout before bed. Don't eat anything heavy before bed.

Also - check your computer, phone, tablets, TV, etc. Do you have a blue light filter? Science has found that blue light emitted by electronics is like CAFFEINE to the brain! Seriously. Go check it out. But get yourself a free blue light filter. It should make the screen turn orange-ish after sunset. That will help, I promise you. I use f.lux.

Also, are you drinking any sources of caffeine throughout the day? Coffee, regular tea, sodas? I would cut all out and see if that helps.

I understand if at the end of the day, you have to take medication, but maybe you will find something useful here. The less medication, the better. I think setting a pattern for your brain and getting into a schedule of sleeping (just like when you have a baby) is so important. You need to rewrite your brain's schedule. It's still stuck in 2019 when you were in shifts. Good luck.

I don't recommend it for dreaming because I never found it to help me.

      Some thoughts:

Your circadian rhythm is determined by your pineal gland, that naturally secretes melatonin when it's dark outside. Make sure that during the daytime, you have access to lots of sunlight (more than just artificial light indoors). Open your window curtains. When it is nighttime, you want to have complete darkness. Make sure you turn off all lights in your bedroom. Make sure no electronics or night lights are left on.

It's important to get the morning sunlight on your eyes. That's important for optimal pineal gland function. Otherwise, if it's very dark because your curtains are drawn closed in the morning, your pineal gland will not recognize that it is morning. It will still think it's night time. That will mess with your circadian rhythm.

Good luck. Rooting for your success

Congrats on your journey so far! Keep it up, it will be worth it.

When last were you out of breath? From a proper cardio workout like running, swimming or dancing or some sport? I bet that will help with your sleep, give it a try!

      Melatonin is working

      Good Morning ALL

I took 2 tablets of 10Mg Melatonin Monday night
Sunday Night I had Insomnia so I could not sleep the whole night.
Monday night my Head was paining but as soon as I took Melatonin my headache went away and I started feeling normal...My body got paralyzed and I got sleep.
I had a Long dream in the night ....and here is what I could write down.
      DJ not in any order
"A girl Likes me.. and smiles at me when I pass by her house...
I tell her that I am afraid to Talk with her...
I leave Her and go,.. the scenes change...I am near a House.. the same Girl approaches me and asks me to Dance with her...I ask Her that I am standing too close to her Is that okay..
But when I start dancing I am with a Boy...

      2nd...Some people are after me...
I and Appu try to run away...
We ask a girl for directions... she asked us to go straight inside her house...and we both go to the House Bathroom...
      3rd
I advertise using A big Kite.
The whole dream was about the Indian festival Holi and people were after me and I was running away from them"

Lets see if Melatonin works today....I think It will work but still there is a small doubt in my Mind...

      Lets see what happens tonight..

Thank you ALL for replying to my Tread..

      Amen.

I'm not a fan of medicating without talking to a doctor about it. But just so you know, 20mg is double the recommended dosage on the bottle I have. You might be taking too much.

You also need to be patient with yourself. Considering you have insomnia, I would think "very good sleep" is a success. Even if you didn't recall dreams.

As for recall, that will come with a consistent sleep schedule combined with journaling. That's all it takes. Consistency is so key. If you want to keep using the melatonin, which is up to you, I would 1) use only the recommended amount on the bottle and 2) use it at the same time every night so that you can form that sleep schedule.

After getting recall down to 2-3 dreams a night, then work on lucidity. Honestly, it can take months, months, to get lucid when you're out of practice or new. Just keep at it. Try not to stress about it.

      Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder

I also need to take medication for ADHD ...
Question is if I take medication for ADHD will it interfere with my Lucid Dreaming experiment....

Or should I first take medication and then try LD ??

I am confused ADHD or Lucid dreams ???

I need ADHD medication because i am not able to concentrate on my work...Work is more important...

I'm a bit surprised to see a 20mg mention here, including from your bottle. The highest I've ever taken was 4mg in a night and I would personally class that as a lot. I take 1mg only these days mostly because of cost, otherwise I'd be taking 2mg. I've never seen more than 2mg for sale anyway, but maybe it's something to do with specific local regulations, and where I live at the moment I can't get even any amount at all, so who knows...

All I know is that I prefer to be extremely careful with anything that affects sleep regulation and its hormones anyway, since the side-effects of misuse can be very severe and potentially life-endangering, as you probably know yourself anyway, though I think it bares mentioning for the purpose of the thread.

These questions are better suited for a doctor really, for example the one who prescribes you the ADHD medication. I am not sure what's confusing about this for you, I think you should definitely focus on prioritising your ADHD medication if that's something you've been prescribed by a doctor; as for whether interferes or not, it might, but seeing as how everyone reacts differently to specific medicines, I think it's a case where you have to judge for yourself the impact that each thing you're taking is having. And from there, you can discuss it with a doctor and see what they think of your situation too.

I think if melatonin does help you sleep, that's a good thing in itself. If you don't recall any dreams, that's okay, just because you didn't remember them one day doesn't mean you won't remember them the next, even with the same conditions. And if you're not remembering your dreams it can also have something to do with what time you're waking up at, as it's also possible that now you're not waking up out of a REM period, which could make recall more difficult. As Hilary suggests, consistency is helpful here too.

Just to be 100% clear, my bottle (which I don't use) does not say 20mg. That's double the dosage. It's 10mg, and only 1 per night.

What Do you Think of my Dream ???
Dreams get little bit wilder and I thought I crossed the river.....

Good morning ALL and thanks a lot for your replies....

As Instructed by YOU yesterday night I took only 10mg of melatonin and I got Vivid Dreams...but I could sleep only for 2 hrs.

Here is my dream... not in any order

"I had a dream about becoming Lucid in dreams....
Dreams co exist … its like All dreams are linked together … interlinked... I dreamt about flying and I successfully flew by flapping my hands....but I couldn't fly high I would fall down....but I was Not Lucid I was dreaming about becoming Lucid....
I met a very large group of people practicing Lucid dreams....
I told one of my friends that we are dreaming..... and I started repeating mantra this is a dream....then my friend got irritated because I was saying mantra and left me … I dreamt a lot … But I am not able to put it everything into words.."

I am eager to hear your opinion about this Vivid dream of mine...

I think you making a big mistake for not taking your Medication that is for your ADHD. And I would highly advise you to talk to your doctor before discontinuing your Medications. (IMO)

While I am glad you had a vivid dream, I just want to be very clear that no one on here is prescribing any medication, including melatonin. We aren't doctors.

I agree that it's a good idea to talk to your doctor before making that kind of decision about the ADHD meds. I'm not against going off of meds if you don't need them - I've done that before - but, I would definitely recommend talking to a doctor first to make sure it's OK, and what the consequences will be for you. For example, some medications have to be weaned. Go see your doc!

I think that sounds like a beautiful dream. Dreaming about becoming lucid is just a stone's throw away from becoming lucid yourself! Keep going with your practice.
