      Sleep Paralysis....gone???

I've suffered with sleep paralysis for most of my life. Eversince I joined DV and have started to seriously look into my dreams, I haven't had a bout of SP. I still wake up multiple times a night but never have SP.

It's odd to not suffer this anymore.
Is this loss of SP a good or bad thing? I'm not sure.

It's interesting that you would use the word "suffer", since SP is a normal bodily function that happens to virtually everyone -- it's just that most people don't realize it since they are asleep when it happens. I would bet that you still enter SP when you are asleep, but you are not aware of it because for some reason it no longer happens to you when your mind is awake.

Generally speaking, I would say that SP is a good thing -- it's what keeps you from acting out your dreams in real life.

Alright...you got me. I should have been more specific.

I realize that I sleep paralysis is still present when I'm asleep. I should have specified that I no longer wake up locked in sleep paralysis.

And I used the word suffer because 80% of the time I would wake up paralized, I'd have the feeling that I was on the verge of dying. Waking up terrified multiple times a night for years would be classified as suffering..in my books anyway.

At the same time the other 20% of the time I woke up in SP, I could either choose to wake up or slip back into my previous dream or start an entirely new dream. Most of my lucid dreams happened as a result of waking up in this state.

And even though It was a frightening experience for me, It feels extrememly strange to not wake up in this state anymore. Can't decide if this is good or bad.

Maybe its neither good nor bad.

If your not terrified in bed I think its a good thing, except its just different to you.

      Yeah.
I feel really weird. Like something's missing.
And my lucid dreams have dropped off quite considerably since i don't wake up in SP anymore.
      ~sigh~
Kinda want to wake up terrified like that again...just for old time's sake.

hahaha, yeah we'll hold you down and try to simulate the effect

You want to wake up terrified? Sounds like an addiction... like you don't want to do it, but once you finally stop, you want it again... haha

      ^_^ Happy Paralizing,

Now it's turned into a tag team thing...huh?
      lol

And yes. I do want to wake up like that again, but not often. Just because I feel so odd not having endured SP for so long now. Guess it is like being addicted. Just didn't know i was adicted till I didn't have it anymore.

And have to add that my LD's have tricked down to almost nothing. Waking up in SP would give me a chance to have another sorely missed LD.

Oh, btw, good luck trying to pin me down. I assure you it won't be an easy task.

perhaps as you read more about lucid dreaming, you became more comfortable with your experience and so you were able to move on.

      I've had similar thoughts.
Since seriously exploring my dreams, a lot of things have changed.
The most prominant is the loss of SP and the loss of LD's.
In my last two LD's, I had experienced a significant loss of dream control.
Then...just no more LD's all together, until this past weekend, but even in that dream I didn't seem to have any control over anything.

Have to work harder at recognizing dream signs instead of relying on SP for lucid dreams I guess.

oh yeah... well, i bet three of us could manage without too much trouble

yeah, it must be frustrating that your LDs have almost dried up without SP. actually, now that i think of it, i haven't had SP in a couple weeks, and during that time i've only had one semi-lucid.

whereas before i had SP all the time, and was starting to have LD's a few times a week...hmm

So it's up to 3 now huh?
That's potentially 3 of my four limbs restrained.
Still doesn't mean holding me down will be very much easier tho.

And yes, Asher, it is frustrating to have lost LD's. I knew the SP and LDs were connected, but I never, in a million years, expected my SP would one day just vanish. So I never anticipated losing the ability to LD either.
Sounds like you're experiencing the same thing. Hope you have better luck holding onto your SP or retraining yourself to learn a new method to LD. I'm having a hell of a hard time 'reprograming' myself. I've even tried the Sleep Paralysis tutorial but I can't make it work for me. Thought it would be easiest since I knew what to expect. But somehow...it doesn't feel the same. I dunno.
Someone told me I was trying too hard. Maybe I am?

      Hey JJM.
I can't believe you resurrected this topic.
I don't know about me being popular. I think I'm just so annoying that some people want to do strange things to me.

Got my DJ updated at your bidding. Was very busy the last few days. Nice to know at least someone missed me.

That happened to me about 2 years ago. I "suffered" SP because I thought I was being attacked by an evil entity or something. (I do believe in God, so I do believe in the existance of evil things) Then for about a year two, I did not have one episode of SP. Then when I went to college last fall, I had it twice, once the first semester, and a really scary one the second semester where it felt like I was being strangled. That was it. I had to look it up on the net and find out what the hell it was, and now here I am, thanking God that I can occasionally experience SP And I have learned how to induce it. Now I need the will to try it every morning (because usually I'm just like, "ah I'm to tired, I'm going back to sleep, I don't feel like staying concious right now"), but if I make a serious attempt, chances are I will achieve it.

So, Blade, your SP just came back out of the blue?

Wonder if mine will. I have awakened a few times with lingering feelings of SP. Have yet to wake up fully locked in it again.

I have been getting better at having LD's through using the HIT technique, but would still love to be able to slip into a SP induced LD. They were much more enjoyable.

I'm sure if you make a serious attempt you'll be rewarded with more LD's.
If you do master it... let me know.
I will find a way to access you so that I can rub you for good luck.

Hi Vex! I frequently experienced SP, but its been months since I remember having one. I welcome that aspect of it, but oddly enough, it has been just as long since I had a lucid dream. :sweat1:
Do you seriously think that blood is the only thing in this world that is colored red?

Vex, let's not forget dream recall, but from reading your dream journal, this is an ability you already excel in.

I'm a deep sleeper, and don't usually notice SP. But, when I started making my WILD atttempts, I DID get it, and heavily, during my attempts. But, as time wore on, I got it lighter and lighter, until, now, when I make my attempts, I barely get it at all...

Till bout a week agom, when, I started to focus on my body a bit more dutring wild, then I DID get it. Weird...
