      Pipe dreams

Well I think it is a safe notion to dream. Not in the literal sense but dream of a better future or dreaming of aspirations.
But when does your judgement become clouded to where you do not realize that it is nothing more than a pipe dream?
Pipe dream: unrealistic hope daydream, false hope, fantasy, fool's paradise, golden dream, pie in the sky, wishful thinking.

When you have your sites set on something for so long it may be hard to come to terms with the reality that it will never happen.

      Howetzer, what prompted your thoughts?

Self reflection, observing specific others, or a general consideration of the human condition?

      Or none of the above?

      Worlds Within,
Actually I was talking to a friend and his father had went to Vietnam. Since that point he has had several issues.
What I would have mistaken for just being a dreamer, it turns out can actually become a condition.
For example his dad (out of the blue) desired to fix up a motor cycle. Which would be fine and dandy. But then the obsession came and he bought three. He abandons most of his dreams out of discouragement. Just to go out and do it all over again.

Then I did get to thinking that if you daydream about something long enough you can become attached to it mentally. Possibly not letting you see the light. You know what I mean?

And some self reflection in there as well.

i think all goals and aspirations are pipe dreams in a certain sense. meaning that nothing EVER turns out exactly as we envision it, or hope.

firstly, we as individuals constantly change. and secondly, if our pipe-dream involves other people, we can never truly know how they will act in the future.

These are cycles that many fall into.

Things can be good, but attachment can bring unhappiness. It brings to mind the parable of the monkey that grabs the shiny trinket in a trap, ensnaring itself by its own grasping hand.

The difference between a pipe dream and a dream is how far me go to make our dreams happen. With pipe dreams we tend to acept that our goals are impossible before we even try.
