Thread: So if I use Matrix logic I can do almost anything right?

Thats the main gist of it.
Let's break it down into what the potential kid said in the movie:

"Do not try and bend the spoon. That's impossible."

Trying to do the impossible in a dream is, psychologically, as difficult as trying to do the impossible in waking life. Especially if you are new to dream control. You have doubts. You have to gauge "well what is this going to be like? What if it resists? How much force do I have to use to do whatever it is I'm trying to do." All of these psychological links to waking world "real life" physics makes it all the much more difficult to do whatever feat you're trying to accomplish.

"Try, instead, to realize the truth. There is no spoon."

Realize that all of these factors are constructs of your mind. If you're trying to walk through a door, don't think "Well this is a dream, and I should be able to walk through the door easily." Instead think "That door isn't physically there. There is nothing to keep me from walking through it except for my own insecurity.

"Then, you realize it is not the spoon that bends. It merely yourself." <or whatever he said.

In this, you're realizing the more 'mind over matter' aspect of dreaming (and some would argue, in waking life) but you're doing so at a most fundamental level. You're no longer Trying to bend the spoon, you're simply Knowing the spoon will bend because there is nothing to resist it but your own way of thinking.
The hardest part is actually getting yourself to welcome the concept blindly, because any bit of doubt is bound to hold you back in some way.

Well if there was no spoon, then technically there were no bullets so Neo shouldn't have died the in the first part and Trinity shouldn't have died in the second part. Of course that's irrelevent.

But yeah. That's pretty much how I see it.

Perception of the danger was what caused Neo and Trinity to "die." The Matrix was only about perception. Your five senses also tell you the Desert of the Real is truth. Is it?

Exactly, it wasn't until "dying" in the hallway that Neo truly realized the extent of the "there is no spoon" concept. He was confused after the first bullet and didn't know what to think. The second bullet caught him and he tried to fight the reaction to simply die, which you could see on his face. After that, Smith bombarded him with bullets so that the shock of being shot 2398347 times blocked Neo from keeping a calm, solid perception of "this isn't Really happening." He was consumed by his senses, and because of that, died.

This is the same with the other rebels, and why Neo is the One. The body/mind connection is so strong, that even the strongest of the rebels, (morpheus, trinity, etc) aren't able to defy the body/mind seperation of dying inside the matrix. That is why Neo is the "One" he represents the Exception to the rule; the tiny percentage of the masses that can unobstructedly seperate his consciousness from the sensory assualt that the matrix data gives everyone else.

It is just like in lucid dreaming. If I'm dreaming of something very intense, it's rare that I can keep my lucidity through the entire ordeal. If I start to get more concerned with "how do I handle this" or "damn, this is too much!" I start becoming more invovled with the dream scenario, rather than seeing through it for what it is, a construct of my own mind. It's hard to stay calm and focused when you're experiencing something that would be, in waking life, life threatening, which is what Neo experienced when he died in the hallway in the first movie.
