Several times.
The first time, years ago, I dreamt I was a Division Level Army clerk stationed in Germany. Our Garrison Site, in Hanau, was overrun by a Soviet Airborne Assualt Unit. Ordinarily I would have expected myself to be instantly killed by such a highly trained Commando Unit, but I was able to get a lucky burst of automatic fire out of my window as the Soviet Soldiers were deplaning from their helocopters and killed one of their soldiers. Then the tide turned. A grenade was tossed in through my window... I even caught the grenade while still in the air, and almost had it tossed back out through that same window, but it exploded just outside of the window, killing both myself and the Russian who had initially thrown it. As our Dead Spirits drifted upward, we both found it amusing that there had not been a clear-cut victor in our little battle.
Years later, I dreamt that I was personal body-guard to this Young King. This Young King was very Noble-minded and Righteous, but in a very studied and theoretical way, and he was not very fluent in the ways of the World -- he was all principle and no common sense. I admired him and worried over his stupidity at the same time. Well, we had been touring a battlefield during a lull in the fighting. I spotted several enemy soldiers about 300 meters away, and while they were simply minding their own business, I figured it was best to maintain the quiet and only kept an eye on them, and I tried not to be obvious so as not to draw the attention of my Young King. But it was not to be, as he caught me glancing over. My Young King simply could not leave well enough alone, and found his principles absolutely dictating that the enemy be fired upon whenever they be sited, and so he took his short carbine and started blasting away uselessly at that great distance, while from the standing position. Effectively he was simply opening up engagement while we were frankly standing nearly out in the open. Silly fool of a King. I dropped to the ground and sandbagged my M1 Battle Rifle for a steady aim and shot twice, killing both enemy soldiers just an instant before they could aim down on ourselves. But then I had to rush the King back to our fortified trenches, as the Battle was about to heat up in earnest. I had a premonition that the Enemy would send a focussed attack to kill the King, and so I immediately arranged to have the King sent far to the Rear, to get him away from the danger. The dream ended as I saw a garden hose feeding a patch of sand in the shape of a new Young King, and I had the idea that if the King in my charge was to be killed, a New King would be grown from out of the ground.
What characterized these killings, particularly in the second dream, was that they had been committed reluctantly and only in pursuant to the strictures of Duty. I frankly regretted the necessity that had forced my hand, and while the enemy had had their rifles strapped behind their backs I had been willing to respect something of an effective Truce.
Many years ago, when I was more aggressive in my dreams, and wanted to kill, then my guns would always seem to jam up and I could never get a shot off. I seemed that the only time my firearms would work properly was when I was under attack or responsive to the battle being brought to myself. I could kill only as a reluctant Warrior.
