      Sigh... Sleep Probs

Can someone recommend something can help me fall asleep. I am so damn sick and tired of taking like 2 hours to fall asleep. I don't know whats wrong with me. It's just really pissing me off now. I'm trying to get a good night sleep before an exam I have tomorrow morning, but that won't be happening.

I keep getting to the point where I'm about to fall asleep. Then I snap out of it, and I'm really wake, and its like WTF!!! why does this happen (sorry, I'm just not a happen person right now)

I'm about to start staying up 2 days straight if thats what it will take me to fall asleep when I want to.

Hey, I used to have the same problems. These things worked for me:

Avoid cocoa, caffeinated drinks (coke, tea, coffee etc.) and energy drinks during the evening.

Write downs plans for the next day so that you don't have to worry about forgetting them while falling asleep. Write down your worries and a possible solution to your problem. It's better to get some rest and think about your problems once you have your energy and thoughts together.

Don't use the bed for anything other than sex and sleeping. This will let your mind associate the bed with sleeping instead of non-sleeping activities.

You might have "sleep apnea", only a doctor can find out if you have this disorder in a sleep lab.

Excersize earlier in the day will help immensely getting you to sleep.

Don't watch TV or use the computer right before sleeping, this will cause too much activity in the visual cortex.

Use relaxation techniques, there are dozens.

I'm having the same problems as Blade is. I actually came into this forum just now to post about it, but saw this post. It started once I began to go to bed consciously preparing for dreams, about 5 days ago. I haven't fallen asleep easily one night. And I always get to the point where I'm free of all thoughts and not consciously laying there trying to sleep, then BLAM!!! "Not gonna happen, bitch!!" I am WIDE awake! Like I hadn't been resting at all. That is the worst. I'd rather just not be able to fall asleep at all then to get comfortable and almost be in dream land then have it yanked out from underneath me.
      Anyways, yea. Any more suggestions??

Another few things that stop me sleeping.. when I TRY to sleep, that is, I want to sleep, I just cant do it. Its like a mental block. Also, if you just daydream away in bed, you fall asleep damn quick :3

Well, last night, when I posted... well, I laid down at 1:45am, and did not get to sleep until 4:30-5:00am I don't have sleep apnea because I don't "snap out of it" out of breathe or gasping for air or taking really deep breathes. I woke up at 9:45 pretty tired, but it didn't really affect for me the exam (I was alot better of than some of the people who pulled all-nighters).

For me lately though, I haven't been attempting to WILD or LD at all even, I think my sleep has just gotten pretty messed up. I think I might have to force myself to wake up early (like 6am) or so the next week or so to try and fix this.

And Wolfe, your right about dozing off in bed at daytimes, I'll be out within minutes if I do that

I think my problem is foregoing daydreaming so I can stay focused on the fact that I'm about to dream. I think I'll lay off tonight and just see what happens.

Do you have a consistent sleep schedule? Forming specific times when you go to bed and wake up can often help immensely with any problems that you might have.

Also, in addition to what's been said, sometimes it can help even just having a nightly routine. If you have a set pattern before you go to bed, going through it can prepare both your body and mind for going to sleep. Anything such as reading or taking a shower, or even as simple as having a pattern of brushing your teeth or taking out your contacts, as long as you start to get into the habit of remembering that you will soon be going to sleep.

I hope this helps in some way. I know it can be a major pain at school (especially since this is finals week for me, too... though I'm already done).

Hmm, 1:45, maybe you're going to bed too late? It sounds strange, but if you go to bed too late, you often cant sleep!! Is that a regular time or just for this night or so?

For college... its a regular time

Exams are done though, so I'm going to work on pulling it down to around mid-night. (as I'm going to have to start getting up earlier for work)

Take some valerian root or a bit of melatonin 20 minutes or so before bed.

Well i'm in the middle of exam week too and I finally found a way to get some sleep. I had insomnia on monday(first exam) and on wednesday but yesterday I found something that helped me get to sleep. I don't know if this will work for anyone else but it worked for me

All right this is what I did: Before getting into your bed take a hot shower (helps you relax )
Then I had a cup of tea (dunno but I think it helped)
I got into bed and did the 61 points relaxation technique (check tutorials) which is really great for relaxing

Anyway I had to share this as I was so happy to be able to fall asleep yesterda 8) wtv...
