      Troubles.

So i am having trouble sleeping. Which is very very weird for me. I never take a long time to fall asleep. For 2 nights i have taken 2-3 hours to fall asleep. I have been trying to lucid dream for about 20 days now.

      Possible reasons.

-Im thinking about dreaming (i try not to. but maybe thinking about it during the day follows through into the night. which is sort of the point i guess )

-I am going to bed earlier to try to sleep longer (maybe i'm just not tired?)

      - I have exams. which may be causing me stress (although i don't feel stressed)

-I have been telling myself to wake up after i dream. I think maybe my subconscious is telling me this as i am nodding off. It seems that everytime i nod off i suddenly become aware that i am doing this and get jolted awake. could this possibly be a good thing (something that i could work with)? that i am realizing that i am dreaming or something?

does anyone have any ideas? or similar problems? How did you get over it? (this is more directed at people who have always slept well then for some reason couldnt fall asleep)

Also i should add. I sleep very well once i fall asleep. straight through the night without waking.

Exams. I just wen through them and I couldn't sleep.

But it can be also thinking too much. but that's something you would know yourself.

What helps? Meditation and breathing exercises. That's what makes me fall asleep. But it takes time to do and if you are tired as I was after two weeks without really sleeping and under pressure... it's quite difficult to do.

Try drinking melissa tea before going to bed.

The weird thing is that i don't really feel stressed.

However i think that the thing is that when studying my brain is thinking a lot more then usual. Maybe i'm just all worked up from doing so much work. My mind is quite busy?

Oh well. Its just really weird for me. I don't think I have ever had trouble sleeping for 2 nights in a row. Meh.

Well any kind of stress, whether you consiously feel affected by it or not, can affect how well you sleep and concurrently your dreams as well. I've found that if I've been studying a lot, I have a tendency to run through facts or details or whatnot as I'm trying to go to bed. Do you feel physically tired at all or do you feel both mentally and pysically awake? If you don't feel physically tired, then exercise and a proper diet can help with that, and if you need to take it a step further then you can try sleep aids.

If you're just feeling mentally awake, you could try, as was mentioned, meditation or breathing exercises. Also, I've found that it sometimes helps to make a list of everything that you've recently been focusing on or need to remember and write it down. Once you've done that, make up your mind that you won't think about those things until the morning. And don't When you decide to go to bed, there's nothing more you can do about those things, so why dwell on them?

If you think it's a result of your desire to LD, I would recommend taking a break from it. Just go to sleep normally without thinking about lucid dreaming or dream recall and do this for a few days or a week just to kind of refresh yourself so you can come back fresh to it later.

I hope that this was helpful.

I think its a combination of all these things. I have eased up on the lucid dreaming attempts. And have stopped doing reality checks. I will resume on friday when exams finish. I feel very alert when I go to bed. I think that it is probably just from studying as well as knowing how dreaming works now.

I notice myself often snapping awake once i realize that i am nodding off. Haha. its really cool and weird. I wouldn't mind if i wasn't doing exams.

Thanks for your help. I will try relaxing myself before i go to bed. And possibly writing stuff down that i am thinking about.
