Nearly all of the dreams I remember are remembered late in a day, when something I see jolts my memory. It's VERY likely we've all had LD's at some point and forgotten it. I didn't remember ANY dreams for years, so chances are I had one at some point.

      Definitely.

I mainly forgot my first LD. I just remember bits and pieces.

Have you ever had a dream at night, woken up and thought about it, and then gone back to sleep and couldn't remember it in the morning? If so there's your answer.

      ---Lucid Experiences: 15---

"In my nightmare, I feel so alive
      In my dreamscape, escapades
I make the grade, I save the day."
      - Eve 6, Nightmare

      "And through it all
How could you cry for me?
Cause I don't feel bad about it.
      So shut your eyes,
      Kiss me goodbye,
      And sleep.
      Just sleep.

      The hardest part's
The awful things that I've seen."
      -My Chemical Romance, Sleep

well typically since I never LD, if I had one I would immediately get excited and wake myself. Then I would tell myself "I LDed! Wo0t! And make a huge mental note to remember it in the morning. So I think I haven't forgotten any LD's ....however it's certainly possible. Probably much easier to forget normal dreams, which I forgot all the time.
Back with less attitude and more diffidence than ever before! Maybe.

I don't believe I've ever forgotten a LD. But I can see how it is very possible to forget one.

The point of having an LD is to remember it, if you can't remember it how do you really know that it was a true LD.

Actually I forgot some LDs I treasured for a long time. I just never spoke about them, I didn't need to see them again. When I came to this forum I was flooded with memories of LDs and other dreams.

But if I LD the night I remember it in the morning or later in a day. I think that LDs are stored in my short term memory at first and actually got saved the night after. Because the day I had an LD I remember clearly everything. The day after I remember a compressed version (and this one lasts). But if I go back to the dream I remember almost everything.

I think that remebering LDs and forgetting them is the same as remembering and forgetting memories. At least in my case. Because for me "it's real" it's lived through...so it's in category "memories" in my brain.

I used to always remember my LDs but recently, I've had them then gone back to sleep and only in the morning remembered actually having one after trying to recall my other dreams! One time I forgot all that happened except the ending o.O it was a rubbish one anyway though so I dont mind

I usually remember my lucid dreams because I wake up and write them down. The past two lucid dreams though I've not woken up at all and have woken up in the morning only just remembering the fact I had a lucid dream. I remember only parts of my last lucid dream and remember nothing of the one before it (except for that during it i remember thinking that it was a good long lucid dream, maybe the longest i've ever had...)

So, yeah, I've forgotten two LDs so far... I think I forgot one once when I went back to sleep after waking up and didn't write it down. So I'll say i've forgotten three LDs so far.

but if you forgot it, how do you know you had one?!

      I'm just teasing

I had a really quick lucid once that I didn't remember until way later that day, so yeah, if your dream recall is bad enough, I believe you can forget any type of dream and remember it way later or never

I forget my dreams if I don't go over my notes or recordings right away (like first thing in the morning) and think about them and write them out completely, and I lost an LD that way. It was my wonderful long one and only FILD-induced dream. I was mad at myself. My LD's don't go into long-term memory any better than regular dreams if I don't make an effort to remember them, but I usually think about them so much I get them in there permamently.

It's just as possible as not remembering what exactly you did 2 Thurdays ago in good detail.

I just don't get it. You all seem to be really able to forget a LD...I mean...ehm maybe it depends on the degree of lucidness.
Because I can't really imagine someone forgetting a dream he created himself (because I usually do create the setting), a dream where he had to think himself to move on (if the setting is set, the plot isn't so I have think about my actions, I think about other characters actions etc).
really what it would be if you forgot all your LDs?
Everything which happens in LD seems to be real even if you know it ISN'T. You feel the pain, exhaustion, you can hear, you can even speak, you feel every emotion....you just...you LIVE in those dreams. How could you forgot all of this as you forget a normal dream?
I agree witj blade5x. What he wrote makes sense. But you don't usually forgot that. You can easily forgot what you did on an ordinary thursday but LDs aren't usually "ordinary".
Ehm sorry for a long post...but I just don't get it that people can forget their LDs like a dream. If I forgot LDs I don't know about it. (I mean I know that I forgot them for a while but they come back when someone asks me about them...)

I've found that with my grand total of LDs increasing, only the memorable ones stand the test of time. Of course I have all of them written down, but I mean in just regular waking life I'll forget what I did in all those LDs. It's that ol' Primacy/Recency syndrome. I remember my first LD in crystal clear detail, and I remember the one I had last night and all last week in clear detail. But as for all the ones inbetween? I'd have to go through my journal and remind myself.

speedbasssux: that's what I consider normal. I don't consider normal waking up and not remembering what happened in a LD if you know that you had one as someone described earlier.

You can't just forget it after having it several hours ago...

I think so. I had an LD about a month ago, but I only remember actually becoming lucid. Everything past that point is completely forgotten, so I think it's possible to forget the whole LD.

I remember LDs as soon as I wake up. I've never remembered an LD later on, so I may have forgotton some of them.

What I meant was can you forget right after waking up (not going back asleep.) But it got answered so far, I'll check in later.

In that case it depends on the intensity of the Lucid dream you experienced. If you had near full consciousness during the dream and then wake up, I cannot see how you'd forget it unless you had a memory problem. If it was a week lucid on the other hand, it can be as easy to forget as many other normal dreams.

It just happens; my LD's are lost as easily as regular dreams, if I don't write them down. Luckily as far as I know I have always been motivated to write them down right away (except for once and that is gone).

You may be right that it has to do with the degree of lucidity; I am not yet achieving full control, or really much control at all. Maybe when that improves, they will seem more real even after I wake up. I have the problem of being lucid with only part of my mind. I forget a lot of my goals when I am in an LD.

I wish I could explain it. I don't want to forget my LDs, and I seriously didn't believe you could forget a LD either. But for some reason now, i've been forgetting them. It might be happening because i haven't been waking up straight away after my LD, so the memory of that dream gets lost with the next dream. I didn't get how people could not remember their LDs, until it started happening to me

I agree with Moonbeam, if I don't write mine down, I forget them. It might be the degree of lucidity as i'm only a beginner and don't have full control over my dreams sometimes (have trouble keeping myself in my lucid dreams...etc)

That has happened to me at least 4 times. In most, I just forgot the dream itself, and remembered having the LD, but never remembered the dream again, but in one of them, I forgot having the LD at all until later that week when I read a thread that happened to relate to what I did.
