WILDing has always interested me, but I have to admit I rarely believed most of the stories I read on here about peoples experiences with it. I tend to believe that most people exagerate or just make stories up. And the tutorial on WILDing didn't really help me understand it much at all, it was lacking in detail, so I assumed that this was really something very rare and that should only work..."in theory".

Well, I have to say that now I believe it is most definitely possible. I didn't fully have a WILD, but I got past step 1.

I was lying in my bed, taking a nap, letting my imagination feed me images and storylines like it normally does before I go to sleep. However, this time they were much stronger, and I would get lost in them a lot more easily. They were what I call "half dreams", like a day dream. Anyways, at one point I began to try and go deeper into these images (these "half dreams") and I would say to myself, "open your minds eye" and I would envision an eye opening. It was at this point that I had a particular image of a woman walking forward, and while I was focusing on getting deeper in to it, I had the oddest sensastion, a total wave of fuzzyiness (it wasn't even fuzzyness , I don't know how to describe this sensation, it was something I had never felt before) and then, I couldn't move any part of my body, I couldn't even speak. I immediatley identified this as sleep paralysis, and I realized, holy shit, I just put myself into sleep paralysis. Now I know this is the next step when you are transitioning into the dream state, but I never thought I would be able to put myself there. Of course, I got so freaked out I began trying to move again (luckily I did bcuz I remembered a post about how to get out of it, by slowly trying to move your fingers). I know that if this happens again, I can lock in on that feeling, of opening my minds eye further, and continue deeper into it and most likely have a WILD.

So now I'm almost positive that this must be a true thing, I'll only be fully 100% when I experience the whole thing.

But just for the record, it was pretty different for me than what is described in the tutorial. I never focused on any of my closed eye visuals, like all those colors and shapes, I just let my imagination take over and play out a day dream for ("half-dream" as I call it) and I just attemtped at going in deeper, making it more vivid, telling myself to open my minds eye.....essentially I was concentrating more on it and forgetting more about my surroundings and reality. The tutorial kinda skips that part.

Good work. It sounds like yoy got a fair bit of the way towards having a WILD. If you decide to try it again in future, remember to not concentrate TOO much. All you need to do is stay conscious, sometimes concentration can be counter-productive... stuff should continue to happen like it did up untill when you pulled out. Eventually the "semi-dreams" will turn into a real dream, and you'll be in it, lucid. Though, the transition itself, is something... erm.... hard to describe. I experience it as sort of what people might describe as OBE/Astral, though I don't believe in that rubbish...

Let me try: its flippin' disorientating.

Blue Meanie, do you have any tips on getting past this point in a WILD?

The dream snaps into 3D in front of me, which is serious jolt, and then it becomes really unstable (probably because I'm kind of freaking out).

I know I need to reality check to stabilize the dream, but I'm scared to move my hands or look around in case I move physically and wake myself up. Normally I wake up anyway.

I'd really appreciate any ideas you have...

Yeah at first I found WILD to be kind of an Illusive technique too: Heard alot of folks talking about it, but never got any real understanding of it or got anywhere near myself.

Untill one night when I used my Own Lucid MP (which rings churchbells 4 times every 2 Minutes) I tried focussing on the Churchbells that would come every 2 minutes to maintain Concious. They're a constant reminder of that I should maintain concious. And after a while I felt I was really very ''deep''. And I suddenly got the feeling of Rapid Acceleration/Falling FAST. While feeling this I had a VERY realistic Immersive Hypnagogic Hallucination of a room all around me: My living room's Windows Looking into my green sunny garden. It lasted for about a second or 4, but it was very powerfull.

Not long after that I fell unconcious anywayz, but since that experience I know I was getting Closer to the often discussed ''TransitionPhase''. I've had it again a couple of nights while attemtping to WILD.
I have never attempted WILD in a 100% fully comitted way but indeed.... I need to train myself to maintain concious longer STILL as I enter the Transition Phase.
I managed to Strengthen and maintain Conciousness LONGER than before already since I've NEVER before experienced SUCH profound Hypnagogic Hallucinations. So I allready made progress. Now it's just training to stay concious longer and more continuous the rest of the ride into the Dream.

I get to the point where I feel like SP, but i'm not sure... I can move if I try hard enough, but does this mean I havent got far enough in?

I get the fuzzy images, half dreams, but I can never seem to make them go 3D and properly immerse myself.

Yeah I guess so. It's a learning process to strengthen your Conciousness and attention. I'm guessing that if you ask people who CAN succesfully WILD that most of them had to train it before they were able to do it succesfully.

      Succesfull WILDers, am I right?

Ehrm.... I wish I could help, and give some tips... but the problem with the transition is that it's different for everybody, I think. For me, it either happens or it doesn't, and it's like rising up from my bed into a dream version of my bedroom... nbothing really "snaps" into perfect 3D... it just sort of... morphs into it.

As for reality checking to stabalise, I found in my LDs that it's better to grab onto something and stare at my hand for a few seconds. I say grab onto something, because in quite a few of my dreams, I get what Amethyst Star (and I) call Drunken Walls Syndrome... the walls like... wobble, and are all drunk. It's weird. But, usually I have to hold onto a desk or something so that a wall doesn't come out and hit me. Cos if the walls hit me I wake up.

well the thing is it happens to everyone, everynight. The trick with WILDing is to stay aware while it happens and only then you will remember having experienced these deep states consciously. So WILDing really comes down to a Meditational form of Training and Strengthening your attention and awareness.

Thanks for the reply. Since my last post, I've actually WILDed successfully for the first time.

Wierdly, I experienced exactly what you just described - a very gentle transition, drifting away from the sleeping body and finding myself in my bedroom. I could even see myself sleeping in bed. I understand why people would think this is an OBE, because the principles seem exactly the same (I don't think it is though, its a Lucid Dream of your bedroom as it looks at that moment, which is pretty confusing).

This is good progress for me, but I still had a little trouble stabilizing. The environment was very real, but a bit 'wobbly' like you described. I did look at my hands, but they were kind of fuzzy and semi-transparent, so it didn't help that much.

I like your idea of grabbing onto something (before looking at the hands), because I think this will help make the connection between the dream body and the environment, which should stabilse things a bit. Will try this out tonight. Thanks!

      CONGRATULATIONS, man! That's AWESOME!

I totally agree with you on the OBE thing... I don't believe in OBEs either, but from having a successful WILD, I certainly see how people can make the assumption. But, it's so awesome to hear that you succeeded... what you describe is pretty much EXACTLY what I had in the (only two ) successful WILDs I've had. There's a little bit of... well... "weirdness" just BEFORE I start rising up from my dream-bed... kind of odd, it's sort of like, I can feel things "shifting" into a dream. But yeah...

Shit, man, that's awesome! I'm so happy!

      Heheheheh...

I should probably start making WILD attempts again myself... I haven't had a successful WILD in... ugh... months. I've only had about three LD's in the past two months, and my dream recall is kind of on and off... I think this topic got me motivated, so.... I'm gonna go to bed now, and try to WILD later on in the night. See you!

I came to the part where you see flashing lights, images and strange sounds. But at some point my body starts having these trills. I haven't get past them though, but i'll try even more.

      Unhappy

now I have worked up my dream recall up to 2 dreams a night ( i could allways remember one but now I can remember two sometimes three ) and every two weeks I may have one - none lucid dream - so now I have started to try and learn how to wild and got to the transitional stage but then pulled out because of the freaky images and strong sensations. Now has anyone got any tips on not getting freaked out in that stage????

If you cannot relax because you think it's scary or somethin, than try another version of WILD, like the FILD. Works great for me, I don't even notice the transition. When I'm laying in my bed and do the nose RC, the next thing I know, i'm dreaming. Check it out

I tried to HILD, but it didn't work. After that I was lying in the bed when I started hearing these wierd sounds. I thought that I was nearlig WILDing. I felt a buzzing sensation. Then my heart started beating really hard and really fast. I thougt that it would go away but it just beat harder and faster. Finally I was too goddamn scared to carry on.
I don't think I made it to the SP.

I had just got to bed and I would like to know if one has to do a WBTB in order to WILD. Also have any of you experienced the heart-race-thing?

I know exactly what you mean, Poison Apple. During my first few WILD attempts, the physical sensations (which I assume are SP) and hypnogogic imagery and sounds were were so intense, I'd usually just pull out of the whole thing.

What changed it for me was using Auto Suggestion during Deep Level Relaxation during the daytime.

I suppose its similar to meditation - you lie down, and do your best to clear your mind and just focus on your breathing. You tell yourself that with every out breath, your body is becoming more and more relaxed.

I visualise myself walking slowly down 20 steps - each step is an out breath and my body sinks deeper and deeper into relaxation, while my mind remains alert. Sometimes I need to repeat this, so it does take time.

When the body has relaxed completely, you actually start feeling sensations similar to SP (falling backwards, the body becoming very heavy or very light, etc).

Once you've reached this point in Deep Level Relaxation, the mind becomes extremely open to suggestion. This is the basis of hypnosis. You can now programme your brain with whatever you want.

I've found this very useful for is staying calm as I enter a WILD. During DLR, I tell myself that tonight, when I start feeling SP and seeing the HI, I will remain completely calm and alert until I enter the dream. Once in the dream, I will remember to examine my surroundings, reality check, etc. The first day I tried this, I WILDed successfully for the first time - and the transition was extremely gentle.

The other technique that I've found very useful is to programme a "Trigger Phrase" during DLR. When your body is deeply relaxed, you tell yourself that to return to this state again, all you need to do is count down from 5 and then say a certain phrase, eg "Trigger deep sleep". The mind seems to take a kind of "body photograph" when you do this.

The first time I used the Trigger Phrase with WBTB, I was actually quite shocked at how quickly my body returned to a deeply relaxed state - I hit SP almost immediately on the Trigger Phrase. This shortcuts a lot of lying around waiting for stuff to happen.

I'm very new to all of this, so I'm by no means an expert (I learnt all of this from posts on this site&#33. But these techniques have been immensely helpful for me. I hope they are for you too!
