Hey all

Have had like 4-5 LDS now. In the beginning it was crazy fun, but recently my dreams have become really dark. Like throwing up slugs uncontrollably, i know im dreaming but I cant really control whats going on. Last night I was LDing about a girl, it started well but then it became a nightmare. She asked me if i loved her and i said "Hell nahh" and she grabbed my balls.... really hard. HAHA yeah thats what really happened. After that i kinda faded out of dreaming and woke up, the problem is I woke in another dream. Then I dreamt about some stuff and again faded out of a dream and waking up, again i was in another dream. It was scary not being to wake up. ( Hmm maybe the whole thing was just a dream, hard to differentiate sometimes.) Then I tried hard, I woke but then went into sleep paralysis. It kinda felt scary that i was trapped sleeping, cause my LDs werent going the way I wanted it. It kinda became a LD nightmare like in Vanilla Sky. Anything I can do to change this? Like I dont have to dream about Rainbows nd like bunnys but im kinda sick of having these crazy nightmares. Anyone think this could be caused by stress? or a new environment cause i just moved. Any recommended reading on dream meanings?

Thanks in advance

Do you take any vitamins to help gain lucidity> because I have heard of some bad dreams that way.

How often do your LD's turn into nightmares?

My advice is basically try and concentrate on getting control of your dream after this happening to stop the nightmares.

from my experience, my nightmares are nearly always caused by a new environment.

I went on Holiday for a week in May and had extremly vivid nightmares every single night, now I'm no chicken but some of them scared the sh#t out of me and left me not wanting to go back to sleep.
I'm 23 by the way.

Just came back from another holiday on saturday, this time I only had one nightmare although it was deffinitiely up there with the worst I've had. The rest of my dreams on the holiday were very very vivid.

I smoke cannabis regularly so I was and still am unsure whether these dreams/nightmares were caused by me being in a new environment or by me not smoking cannabis for a week as I dont smoke on holiday but normally would smoke daily.

My nightmares always scare me, even when they aren't horror, alot of the time they play on the insecurities I have in real life. Its always scary tho to see how dark and calculating your sub conscious can really be.

I agree, I think the new environment has ALOT to do with both having nightmares, and the frequency of lucid dreams in general (I know it does for me).

My advice is, see how your dreams go once you're more settled and comfortable in your new surroundings. After that if you're still having issues with scary lucid dreams, you should focus specifically on dream control so that, at the very least, you can successfully wake yourself up when a dream goes bad like that.

Good luck man.

A new environment could definitely do it, as well as stress. I really recommend meditation or just relaxation, at least once in a while- even if it's just some time to veg out where nobody disturbs you.
One positive aspect of recurring nightmares (for me, at least) is that I eventually learned to take ANYTHING scary that happened as a dream sign. I just trained myself to think that if something freaky was going on, do a reality check. If your nightmares are consistant, this could really help after a while. And of course remember that though they suck and it's scary when it feels like you can't wake up, none of it can hurt you in reality. I find it just helps to keep reminding myself of that, especially before bed.

Ive heard people say that doing things like smoking cannabis and drugs can make it easier to LD and when you dont have it it makes it hard to progress. I think the main reason for that is stress like you thought. I know that it affects my dreams when i dont have it. even if the thought of not having is in my mind a little bit, deep down it affects my subconscious which is enough to make me lose control of my dreams.

Along with being in a new environment, maybe it has something to do with stresses in your life.

One thing that others have done when having an LD that is a nightmare is confront the demon/evil/adversary. Walk up and ask them why they are doing that to you. Better yet, give them a hug and tell them that you aren't scared of them. Many people have reported that this will break the nightmare and it will become a very revealing experience.

Of course I'm just giving this based on info from others, and not personal experience. I've never had an LD nightmare yet, thankgoodness.

Thanks everyone, really good input. I really think that it is a reflection of my real life. Im living in a fraternity house, basically 50 people that I dont really know that well. Along with that I've been having troubles with my girlfriend, commitment problems, and I really do think that this was reflected in my dreams (the whole ball grabbing thing hehe) My subconcious is telling me, in a really graphic abstract way i might add, that something is bothering me deep inside whether it be being comfortable with myself or insecurities whatever it is, its only revealed to me in dreams and I dont even realize it in my concious state or even think about it. Cause usually LD's are suppose to be an experience that you control right or most of it, so the fact that im not in control of a lot of things shows that my subconcious is trying to get a message across to me? Do you guys think this is accurate? Just a thought. Anyways thanks a grip for everyones responses, put me at ease a little if anything.

Your interpretation sounds right on to me. Remember, no one can interpret your dreams as well as you, yourself can. Just understanding the cause might help. Good luck!

LD nightmares are scary shit man, I've had one where I was being told by some creature telling me that I couldn't wake up, and when I tried it was right, I couldn't. Felt like hours trapped with my tormentor before I woke up.

Also my girlfriend had one recently that made her too scared to sleep for 2 days. Just the retelling of that one still freaks me out.
