I had a pretty interesting thing happen this morning. I woke up to the sound of Mitz mumbling. I had noticed her mumbling earlier in the night, thought I would try and chat with her - but since she didn't seem to be having a nightmare I decided to just let her go with it. This second time, though, I thought I'd have some fun It was about 5am and I woke up and was able to make out a few of the words she uttered. So, I did what I would like anyone to do for me if they were in that situation - tell me I'm dreaming! I spoke softly enough for her not to wake up, but loud enough for her to hear. All of a sudden, it was as if I was there - in her dream. She would describe what was going on, and then I'd "play along". It was so cool! After just a few exchanges I was able to picture the scene she was dreaming in my head. At first I didn't tell her she was dreaming because I thought that might wake her up. But, after I realized she was really zonked out, I told her it was a dream. We went on about a few things (won't go into details because it's her dream and I'll respect her privacy). There were certain points along the way where I thought she had lost lucidity. But she would keep proving me wrong. At one point I asked "you wanna fuck?" and this huge grin on her face appeared! Just when I thought I'd get to see her groanin and moanin she said "no" -- I asked, "why not?" and she said, "because this is just a dream" - whatever. Then this other time when I thought she had let her guard down and lost lucidity I asked her something else, but she said "no, because you're really not here - you're awake". This whole thing felt like I was talking to someone under hypnosis - and essentially I probably was. The funny part was after she got up when she would recal something from the dream and I would finish off her sentence and add something that I possibly couldn't have known unless I was really there. The expression on her face! I know, I'm mean. But I did fess up and tell her she was talking in her sleep. I gotta say, even though I wasn't lucid myself, it was still quite an experience for me. Like I was communicating with someone from beyond....

I don't get it... You were awake and talked with your sleeping girlfriend. After exchanging a few words could you then imagine how her dream was and then go to sleep and "enter" her dream, or what? Please someone explain a bit further how that proceeded

Summary: One person awake, one asleep. Awake person talks to sleeping person. Sleeping person's dream is affected by awake person's suggestions. The End Mmm k?

I thought I would add an update to this thread. Since that first experienceI had with Mitz I've managed to have at least three more lucid discussions in the same manner. Due to the personal content one can discover when someone is in such a state I'm really not going to go into any details. However, I will say this: I do think that being in a dream is very close to (if not the same) as being in some sort of hypnotic state. I'm not talking the kind of control where you can have someone quack like a duck at the snap of your fingers - but more in that the person's feelings and thoughts can be "coached" a bit just as a hypnotist would do in order to get the person to relax or recall memories. It's as if the sleeper will let their guard down a bit and be more open to discussion, rather than feel threatened by questioning. That is not to say that the sleeper doesn't still hesitate from time to time.

Now that's pretty cool. When I was in France, I actually thought of doing the same to my brother. He was also mumbling something while sleeping. I didn't do it though
