Okay, I started keeping a dream jounal (JD) this morning, and the techniques you guys put up really do work - originally i could only remember part of one dream, but by writing it down it made me remember more that I would have expected! Now I can remember the best part of three from last night.

It's funny, also, when you think about wanting to be able to remember your dreams, I can. But the one night last week that I didn't think that to myself when falling asleep (I've been doing this since wednesday), I didn't remember a thing!

I'm doing a few reality checks per day now, both the hand and nose things, and if it's successful then I will tell myself that.

Anyway, I'm going to wait a few days before I start going through my JD to look for dreamsigns and such like. But a question on those:

I have a particular place in my dreams which keeps appearing. (I have been in this place twice in two of my three nights). My question is - as far as I'm aware, this place is not real. it's a town square/car park that leads into an alleyway, with a rusted car at the far end. So because this place isn't real, how am I meant to try and get myself to perform a reality check, or whatever I need to do to achieve lucidity if I go there again?

PS: Just how vivid are lucid dreams? Are they first person? Are they as clear as real life, or are they almost hazy?

Cheers!

Hi RetepNamenots.

If you have a repeating dream scenario, you could try the following. Before you sleep, or during any period that you wake up during the night, tell yourself "when i am in [insert scenario], i will do a reality check". repeat this a few times till you have the idea that it's stuck in your head, but no longer than a minute or 10 else you won's fall back to sleep so easy again. This kind of technique is called autosuggestion, and is a major part of the MILD technique.

Also, vividness of LD's can vary greatly from person to person and from dream to dream. Same counts for point of view (1st or 3rd person) and clarity. For me my LD's are always first person, mostly pretty vivid and sometimes clear and sometimes hazy. Good luck with lucid dreaming .

Thanks for the tips!

I only remember having a couple of LDs, when I was about 7, and I remember where it was, and for some reason I think it was in third person.
** Just a thought! ** <strike>If</strike> When I get an LD again, I would really want to go back to that place!!!

Thanks for the suggestive technique, I'll try that tonight.

Could you do the same sort of thing with deciding where your dream will take place, even if it is just a standard dream, and not LD? If you could, then it would be awesome to go to the same place each time, and I'm sure it would be a lot easier to train reality checks for that location...

Actually you could, it's called dream incubation. Most people considder that to be a pretty advanced technique (and I agree, Im not so very good at it.. yet). But you could try that once you have mastered the ability to LD a bit. Some people seem to have a natural talent for it. You never know....
