      The question about the essence of reality must be as old as mankind.

      LaBerge's point to distinguish dreams from reality (awakeness) was that while awakeness is fed by sensory (external) input, dreams are a status of the brain which don't need sensory input.

      It's a nice working definition, based on biology, but I think it's far too simple for further discussions.

      Importantly, there is NO way for a single individual person to distinguish between those two states, without having access to external information.
