First of all, I was kind of using your example as the exception:

I see a bit of an exception in parents who are staunchly against LDing and think it's Satanic. Parents are there to raise us, but it's kind of pushing it to tell your kids what they're allowed to do with their own minds[/b]
The thing I was talking about was more regarding the original poster who said his mom just thought you didn't get as much rest when you dream, and then people jumped on and started criticizing HIS mom. That kind of opinion is common and hardly something to attack someone over. You're right, if you don't know someone else's family situation, you shouldn't make judgments about their parents either way. That's what I was trying to say.

Obviously if you feel like your own mother is unsupportive and rude, you have a right to say so.

PS Congrats on the 1000th post.

Edited so as to make myself. . .make more sense.

Well, Im going to post the whole story, but i went to bed to have a nap for like 3 hours. When i woke up my mom asked me about my dreaming, and if i can lucid dream. She seems more interested. I went to the library and got another book.

My sister is awesome, she's the only one who actively talks to me about LDing. She even bought me a hardcover copy of the book Creative Dreaming by Patricia Ball (one of the books I put in my LDing book tutorial! ) How cool is that?

It didn't stop me from learning about such subjects though. Her dislike of such things only made me want to learn about them all the more.

I never, and still don't, understand why she classifies such things as evil. They say ignorance is bliss but in her case ignorance is overbearing bitchiness.
haha, Mine too. Only it's my Father who thinks it's EVIL! ( I haven't even let the thought cross my mind about telling my Mother. ) He thinks your interfering with your spirit when you LD. But I've been trying to work to change his mind, telling him that children have them quite often, etc... Not working too quickly though.

When I told my mom, who is usually very skeptical and critical about anything she has never personally experienced or in any way conflicts with her beliefs, made it seem like I was join some kind of suicidal cult; like lucid dreaming was the most ridiculous thing she has ever heard of. She doesn't ever really seem to have any effect on how I think though, because here I am four-five lucids later, looking for more.

My dad on the other hand thought it was pretty cool. He even told me a story about when he was younger about his dreams. Supposedly he had a repeating nightmare for a while and eventually was able to end it when he wanted; no more than that, though.

Don't even get me started on what my friend said..

My mom told me this:

"Are you bouncing up and down with excitement?"

And my dad:

"Your alarm clock is set to 2 a.m."

That's it.

Lol, my dad just called me and told me this:

This morning I was having coffee and I remembered realizing I was dreaming earlier that morning! But then I realized that was AFTER I had already woken up. [/b]
Bless his heart, at least he's open minded about it!

My dad didn't really show too much intrest in it. My mom thinks it could be messing with your mind, I tend to not talk to them about it at all.

My parents still say it's a waste of time and I need to find a better way to kill all my 'free time' so I just tell them, "what else am I supposed to do while sleeping?"

They just look at me funny like it's me who's weird for being insterted in LDs and dream recall and not them for telling me not to dream when I'm asleep.

They honestly should just either get with the program or leave it be, I've been bugging them about my dreams since I was six and talking about LDs for a few years now, they just don't want me to have LDs because they can't understand those things, their lucky if they even have one dream a month and remember it... too bad they can't be more open-minded on things that are actually interesting in life

Exactly the same response with my friends. My mother is pretty interested but not my father...
Currently practicing WILD. I quote Kaniaz who said it best: "The point of WILD is to piss me off". Though, I have not given up, far from it.

I just don't let anyone know unless the topic comes up in conversation, even then I refer to them as 'dreams you can control' rather than 'lucid dreams'.

I tell them that dreams you can control kick ass!

Haha. Does she realize you can't study while your asleep?
Might as well put that time to good use.

My mum knew what a lucid dream was, although she didn't know the term lucid, but she didn't understand why someone would want to do it deliberately. Apparently she has had a lucid dream before. But I had to explain to her that you can do anything you want in a dream since it isn't real, and thats why I wanted to have more of them. She still seemed perplexed. *sigh*

You know, it's weird. My mom seems to have taken some intrest in it. She sees me on DV all the time and seen all the books I've bought. I don't think she was totally favorable about it at first. But over the past few weeks she's been telling me about her dreams and asking if I've had any Lucids.

My mother doesn't really believe in lucid dreaming even though me, my brother, and my brother's girlfriend all do it. The weirdest thing is that she's a nurse and has a great deal of training in psychology.

Never asked my father. I'll have to do that next time that I'm at home. I'd bet that he might be a natural.

My mom couldn't be less interested. She told me to not talk about my dreams at all, because people aren't interested. Not sure about my dad, but because of my mom's attitude, I don't plan on attempting to talk to him about it. But they both tend to pop up in my lucid dreams.
